If any of the keys are stuck in the down position, it will lock out the entire keyboard so that none of the keys will work.
One think you can try, is turn the typewriter upside down, and hit the bottom of the unit (right above the keyboard). See if there anything that falls out besided dust. Also hit ALL of the keys. Each and every one of them just to make sure non of them are stuck down.
Try this a couple of times, and see if it helps any.
Good luck.

How do I unlock the keyboard of IBM Selectric III???

The Selectric typewriter has several "interlocks" that can cause the keyboard to be locked. When you turn the machine off there is a mechanism that locks the keyboard. When you turn it on the part should move and unlock the keyboard. Sometimes this part sticks and the keyboard will remain locked. When you type any character the keyboard is locked to prevent two keys trying to type at the same time. The machine locks and unlocks very fast. One keys is locked in and prevents others from working. try turning on the machine and hitting every key just a little bit harder and see if it then types. When you shift, as the ball is turning the keyboard is locked temporarily so it won't attempt to type as the ball is turning as that would damage the machine. Sometimes the shift mechanism can cause the keyboard to remain licked as the shift may not have finished it's complete cycle. Also, the return mechanism locks the keyboard temporarily when the carrier is returning to prevent you from typing when the carrier is moving backwards. Only a qualified technician can resolve those issues.

The lock button is blinking green and won't type. I'm sure there is a code to unlock, but I don't know what it is. Help??

This usually means that it didn't complete it's power on cycle. Try removing the ribbon and lift off and printwheel, check P/W for bent or broken spokes, replace P/W and try it with out Ribbon and L/O.

The Swintec 7040 typewriter goes a few inches to the right and stops. How do I unlock?

My best guess is that you have the R. margin set there. Go to the stopping point, press but don't hold the MAR REL key, spce to desired location, press R. mar key.

The caps lock on my Swintec 2410 typewriter suddenly won't lock anymore. Suggestions?

I don't know if tou are talking about shift lock ir caps mode. If it is shift lock gently pry the S.L. keytop off, push down thu the small hold in the middle of the stem if that makes it work make small spitball and push it down the hole, replace the key top. if this dosen't work you need a new contact pad in the keyboard.

I cannot unlock the shift lock and can't find my manual. The online manual doesn't address this issue. Thanks!

Most T/W pressing either shift key will unlock the shift lock but some you have to press the shift lock again.
Go to brother.com, clickon support you will find a manual there.

Caps lock

There isn't a "code" key, you just press the Shift key.  Unless you have a faulty machine, this is what removes the Caps Lock.
