Typewriter won't type letters

My typewriter just quit working while I was typing. I changed ribbons and it still didn't fix it. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

My typewriter only types half a character. I tried changing the ribbon but the problem persists.

HI.. the hammer solenoid may be faulty..it should make a typing sound when you hit a key.( the printhammer moved and strikes the printwheel) or when you changed ribbons you might have unlatched the printwheel..there is a lever you press to relatch it until it "clicks"
If not that then make sure the ribbon is seated correctly, that it is between the printwheel and the black roller. Also visually inspect the ribbon so it is not caught in the printwheel.

I have an Olivetti Lettera 32. I put a brand new ribbon in it and when I type, the letters are coming up too light on the paper. How do I fix this? What needs to be done?

First thing is to be sure the ribbon is feeding, watch while you type. if not you may have a universal spool ribbon that isn't quite that universal. Wind the ribbon onto your old spools.

I have a circa 1940's-50's Royal Desktop Typewriter. The ribbon that was already on it was rather worn and severely faded so I bought new ribbon for it. The only available ribbon was a red-black silk inked...

You have the ribbon on wrong. The ribbon dosen't feed off the spool but take up onto the spool. install the ribbon so that the moving spool is taking up the ribbon.

Typing half letters

If it was working befor you changed the ribbon check to be sure the ribbon's feet are engaged in the slots on the ribbon deck, that the blue latch is latched and there isn't a fold in the ribbon. If all of these are OK push down firmly on both ends of the platen.

Brother EM-630 not typing until I press delete

If the ribbon is lifting to high to type it is either not snapped down or the platform it sits on is bent up, or posablt the lift pin is not positioned into the drive cam (hard to see this part)

Why doesn't my typewriter type when I'm typing

I had this problem once with another brand. One mode actually waits for you to complete an entire line of type before printing it onto the page allowing you to make error corrections without wasting alot of "correction tape". Change the mode back to typing on the fly.
