Did the flash drive come with the driver?
Windows 98 requires the driver to be installed to recognize the USB flash drive.

USB support is poor in Win98.

Even with the drivers installed they may not work.

Are the drives already formatted? Are they formatted to FAT or FAT32? If they're NTFS they won't work.

If you go to your USB drive manufacturers site, they should have a link there for Win98 drivers. If not, you can try this site for setting up some generic drivers for your win 98 box. Hope this helps.

Here's your solution...hot off the press..

Before installing the drivers, it is important to know that there
are 2 main versions of Windows 98, and they both handle USB
differently. You must install the appropriate version of the drivers
dependent upon your version of Windows 98. In order to determine your
Windows version, please do the following:

    • Right click on My Computer and select Properties

    • On the System Properties page that opens up click on the General tab, if it is not already on that page.

    • Under the System heading, look for the version number (see right)

      • Version 4.10.1998 is the original version of Windows 98 (98FE)

      • Version 4.10.2222 is Windows 98 Second Edition (98SE)

    • Click the link below for the download and installation instructions for your version of Windows 98

    Download
Please click the link for your version of Windows 98:

When I connect my pandrive to computer. A massage is shown that the device is not recognized by computer. Window XP 2003 is installed Please send me solution for this problem.

hi

Using the flash drive as the example, you would:
  1. Plug in your flash drive, then go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager.
  2. YOu should find the flash drive listed under USB Devices.
  3. Without taking the flash drive out of your computer, use the Device Manager function to "Remove" the drive from Windows.
  4. When that is finished, take the flash drive out of your computer.
  5. Reboot.
  6. Now, plug in the flash drive and Windows should recognize it again.
  7. If you originally had to load drivers from a manufacturer's CD for the flash drive, you'll have to load them again. You might have to do that if you're runing Win98 or WinMe or Win2000.

Hi, i am looking for drivers for usb pen drive storage on win98

Just patch up Windows 98 and you get USB filesystem drivers up to a certain size. You can look on the flash drive maker's site for particulars on fancier USB pen drives (e.g. with fingerprint authentication etc.) and perhaps drivers. Otherwise you get to use a VM on a modern machine to move files where the Win98 environment can see them.

Usb device not recognize

You mentioned that you uninstalled the unknown device from the Device manager. If you uninstall it then connected your usb flash drive you will see an error again on your device manager. This means that the driver for your usb port is not properly installed.

To install it, visit dell website, look for the model of your machine and locate the driver, download it then install from your machine.

Win98 is not recognized my pendrive

You'll Find it is the USB ports..Not the pendrive .USB driver weren't found in windows until WIN ME.

USB flash drivers for win98 SE

Not sure what model drive you purchased. If you go to:

http://www.kingston.com/support/USBFLASHDRIVES/default.asp

you can choose which drive you have and it will tell you in the "Support Options" box if a WIN98 driver is available. Unfortunately they only support a few models these days. Hope yours is one of them.

SanDisk Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drive won't work with Win 98

Hi,

You need to download the Sansa Win98 drivers here. This is of course assuming that your Windows98 recognizes the on board USB ports of your motherboard which can be verified in the Device Manager. The Universal Serial Bus Controllers should show at the very bottom of the list of installed devices.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Toshiba 310cds windows '98

go here >http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Put in product type, family, product series, model, Operating system, Choose audio for driver type, choose your country, then download the audio driver for win98 and install it once downloaded that should fix the audio problem
As for the flash drive go to the manufacturers web site and find the win98 driver
Win98 will not auto recognize flash drives like winxp does , they require a driver for windows to find them
Best of luck
Hope this helps you
