Question about Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator
We have given up on keeping our ice maker functional. We have had the refrigerator for about 5 years and the ice maker has been fixed at least 4 times. Now we buy bag ice, works great and someone else has the problem of maintaining the ice maker. The problem now is that the ice chute freezes up all of the time. I cleared the chute one day and it was frozen again the next day. It is a mixture of ice and frost. Help!
To make sure I am understanding you correctly, are you saying that after a normal fill, water continues to drip into the ice maker and freezes in the fill chute?? If yes, than replace the water valve.
If not then:
does the flap shut all the way? Sounds like you are drawing moisture from the chute. The flapper should seat so that no air is being drawn in. I have seen a number of these Kenmore where the pin and spring retainer has broken off from the dispensor housing causing this problem. They use to replace the whole freezer door because the dispensor housing is not a servicable part. They have now come out with a kit to address this problem. This is not a fun job for a first timer. You may want to contact Kenmore and inquire about the aforementioned. If this is your case, there is a good chance they will cover it.
Please don't forget to rate me as fixya..
