Question about Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000

1 Answer

MS Keyboaeds Back with another one that seems to have MS Support stumped. Dell PC, Windows XP Home OS Replaced MS Multimedia USB-to-PS/2 keyboard with MS Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, which is USB only. New keyboard does not activate Function/Enter keys at startup until blue screen, which is too late for Startup, System Status, Safe Mode, et al.

A lot depends on where the keyboard and mouse are plugged in. I have seen in the past that the USB in the back works better than the front. Are these the original keyboard and mouse? If not, use the original until after Windows loads the desktop.

Make sure that all USB functionality is enabled in the BIOS, especially USB Legacy Mode. If Windows still does not recognize the keyboard, then it is not compatible with USB. USB keyboards can be found as low as $10 pretty easily if all you need is basic keyboard functions.

I just buy a4 tecch keyboard (X-slim multimedia) and PORT USB doesn't work... Pleace help me

Hai,

If your keyboard has PS/2 port you have to purchase PS/2 to USB converter and then attache it to your keyboard. Then in your BIOS you have to confirm whether USB keyboard is available and it is enabled or not. If not you have to enable then your USB keyboard works.

Cursor jumps around when typing. It will go anywhere in the document. Happens in all programs.

What type of keyboard you are using (PS/2 or USB)? Is that a regular keyboard or multimedia keyboard? You need to isolate the problem. Please follow the steps below.

If you are using a USB keyboard:

1. Connect the keyboard into different USB ports of the computer.
2. Connect the keyboard into different computer.
3. Try using different keyboard to see if the problem will persist.

If that is a wireless keyboard:

1. Try replacing the battery
2. Connect the receiver into different USB ports.

Check the keyboard settings:

1. Go to the Control Panel > Keyboard
2. Adjust the keyboard settings and speed.

Hope it helps and have a great day!

Hotkeys not working

Try it first on a different computer and install the software there and see if it works. If it does, it could indicate a problem with your PC.

If it does not work on the other PC as well, the k/b is defective, and since it is still under warranty, best get it replaced.

If possible, try using the k/b on a different port. If using the PS/2 port, try using it on a USB port (if you have a PS/2 to USB adapter).

Finally, try a clean boot of the driver. Details for XP can be found here.
If you have Vista, go here instead.

Keyboard problems.

1. Restart the PC. 2. Hit F12 key repeatedly as soon as the PC turns ON. This will bring up the Boot Menu. 3. Select DELL Diagnostics. 4. Select the Complete / Full from the list of options. 5. Let the tests run which may take about an hour. Make sure you are there in front of the PC for the first 10-15 minutes, because it would need your inputs. 6. This will test the keyboard and USB ports too. 7. This will also verify for you whether the keyboard works when Windows hasn't started. 8. If all the tests pass and your keyboard is still working after sometime, you have issues with Windows: Start you computer in Safe Mode and check the USB drivers and the keyboard drivers. 9. Now, if you continue having issues even when you are running the diagnostics, you need to check your hardware viz. keyboard (try installing another keyboard if you have one) and the USB port. PLEASE REVERT BACK WITH THE RESULTS. I WOULD LOVE TO HELP YOU FURTHER ON THIS, IF THE ISSUE CONTINUES.
