Need to update my tom tom. I have no idea how to do it.

Go to TOM TOM´s homepage http://www.tomtom.com/services/
Connect the GPS unit to the PC using the USB2 connection.
You will be given the possibility to restore the unit´s files. This takes a while, but it solved the problem for me.

as per the TomTom N14644 manual, it is usable in US and Canada, just have to have the right maps loaded to it.

Unfortunately it sounds like when the car charger went bad it also did in the board on your tt. It would be cheaper to just purchase another unit than to get this one repaired out of warranty. My advice would be to sell it on ebay. People buy these all the time for spare parts.

The device depends on external transmitters broadcasting traffic data. I'm not certain that the service is even available in South Africa. Please check to make sure you can use it before you purchase anything.

on you main menu go to the wrench picture, that is change preferences. Then touch the arrow, above done on the screen 3 times til you reach the screen that has "3 flags flying. that is the icon to change language. touch that, choose english us and you're done.

because tom tom uses the bluetooth connection via your cell phone to obtain traffic conditions on the newer verision of tomtoms they use the rds signals
