look..the graphic card is a miniature board, witha radiator on it,and it is situated perpendicular on to the will see that from its behind there a wire which goes directly to the monitor.thats the recognise part.
in case your computer has no video card, just onboard graphic adapter you have to identify the AGP or the PCIE slot from your mainboard.
this is how you do
look on the mainboard..youll see the processor un the middle..big,with a fan on it(ventilator)
under it..there are some long 10,12 cm long..paralles between them and paralles with the lowest laturaof your computer case..
the fisrt from up...the one which is situated upper is the agp one
I exclude the possibility to be a PCIE slot because your computer is not a today more than sure you have a AGP slot.
ussualy is a brown or red collor..anyway it is different by th eother slots paralel with it. put there the video card and voila...youre done.
however if you had no video before just the integrated on mother board solution,go in bios and desactivate the onboard video.
after that, put the instalation cd or just the ati catalist driver for your new nice agp ati radeon 9600 video board.
with all done, you should have a new board:)
like an advice..I dont recomand you to do this alone..go to a specialised service and let them do it for you,ask them to let you see the job for a next time...but now..if you never did that ..its quite ok to let a specialist hanndle it.,ok?
good luck
oh by the may surf for a while on internet to see some photos with video boards atached on mainboards..
i give you the link whwere I found your dell..It might not have a video board, but only a integrated video on mother board..

good luck
inform me later how it went,ok?bye

I have a dell dimension 3000. I want to add a 2nd monitor. I believe the video is integrated, Does the unit have a slot to add a video card. What kind of card should be added?

The Dimension 3000 Springdale G chipset supports AGP 8X cards, integrated video, integrated audio, ICH5, 533/800 MHz FSB, dual channel DDR 333/400 memory, integrated Serial ATA, and the Intel Pentium 4 Prescott.
The AGP 8X slot refers to Advanced Graphics Port. You can add a AGP video card if you motherboard has that slot. Usually that slot is encased by a green plastic enclosure .

Can I add a PCI graphics card to my dell 340 to get a dual monitor

Yes you can. Depending on your model you can install

  • In the small desktop computer, up to two 32-bit, 33-MHz PCI cards.
  • In the mini-tower computer, up to four 32-bit, 33-MHz PCI cards.
  • One 32-bit AGP card. The expansion slot supports an AGP 4x (low profile in the small desktop computer) card operating at 1.5 V.
You can NOT install ISA expansion cards.

Find more details here and here.

Dell 4600 problem with new video card

if you can still log on to the Windows Advanced option, you need to go to the "enable VGA mode" then re-install your video card drivers.

**you can get it from this website:

To get to the advanced boot up menu's for windows, you need to press on either F8 or F5 button as soon as your computer is turning on. Like you have to tap those buttons.
