Had the same problem ... Would not see my wireless router ... except when I used the e-mpower manager butten (upper right corner) ... then it would see it and connect it ... Befoe this I did a internet check and repair with the manger before and it said to TURN ON THE INTERNET SWITCH ...

I deduced it was the button by the wireless (yellow) light (between F4 & F5) ...IT WORKED ! You can check this by going to the PC's CONTROL PANEL and APPLY this FUNCTION to search for wireless connections & connect... ALSO; if you switch to another USER ... It may AUTO Reset and find the wireless router. But will go back to OFF when you go back to the MAIN user ... YOU MUST APPLY THIS FUNCTION WITH THE SWITCH ... use the Control Panel !

    Good Luck ...

Upgrade your RAM. Vista is too big if you only have 1GB of RAM.

Asus 4g will not connect with netgear router using WPA-PSK Protected access Pre-shared Key

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Tip

Secure your Wireless Router - General Guide

How do I secure my wireless router? A general guide

To set up wireless router security, there are four main steps, which are the same for most routers. These are:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection
2) Change the router login password
3) Change the network name (SSID)
4) Enable WPA encryption.

This is a very general guide, which will use the Netgear DG834G wireless router as an example. As every router is different, you will need your user manual to get the most out of this tip. (If you need help with finding a manual, see ‘How To Find a Router Manual’).

Here are the details:

1) Login to your router, using a wired (Ethernet) connection.
Make sure you have a cabled connection to your router. Then open a web browser, and type the router’s IP address into the address bar. For example, this is http://192.168.0.1 for the Netgear DG834G (Note, there is no ‘www’).

Enter username and password at the prompt.

Netgear DG834G: the defaults are username: admin and password: password (or, for UK Sky users - username: admin and password: sky). Other routers – common usernames are admin or blank: common passwords are admin, password, 1234, or blank.

If you log in successfully, you should then see the router configuration screen.

2) Change the router login password.
To change the router password, find a menu option such as Setup, Tools, Administration, Basic Settings, Management, or Utilities. On the Netgear DG834G – this option is under Maintenance > Set Password.

Set and confirm a new login password. Click ‘Save/Apply’ when finished.

Tip: Write the router login password on a label, and stick it to the router.

3) Change the SSID (network name):
The SSID or Network Name is the name you see when you are looking for an ‘available wireless network’.

To access this setting, find a menu option such as Wireless, Wireless Security, Security, or perhaps Advanced Settings. For the Netgear DG834: the Network Name/ SSID option is under Setup > Wireless Settings.

Change the SSID from the default, to anything you like. It is case sensitive, and you can use up to 32 letters – but do not use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Save’ or ‘Apply’ when finished.

4) Enable WPA encryption
Find the Wireless Security or Wireless Encryption Options section - often in the same section as the SSID (eg for Netgear – it’s still in Wireless Settings).

You may have a number of encryption options. Select WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK (good choices to start with).

You then need to enter a network key. The box to enter this may be labelled Network Key: it may also be labelled WPA-PSK, WPA Shared Key, PSK, Security key, Passphrase, Pre-shared key, Authentication key . On the Netgear DG834Gv3 it is labelled ‘Network Key’.

The network key should be a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers - eg, 451ThisisGooDFunforgEeks7899. It is case sensitive. (If you think your connection is likely to be hacked, pick a very strong network key.)

Note down your network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. Click ‘Apply/Save’ when finished.

That's it - you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.

There are further security options to enable if you wish, but these three are the most important.

When you next connect wirelessly, you should see your wireless router with its new name in the 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

If you get stuck with any of this, consult your manual, or post on Fixya. Good luck with securing your router.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
A word about WPS: WPS is a shortcut method to help you implement security on a wireless router. Consult your user manual if your router is WPS enabled, and you prefer to use WPS.

I have just bought anew laptop cant get onto internet it wants me to type in security key i dont know what this is can you help me please?

  • If your are trying to connect via wireless from your laptop to the Netgear router, most likely it's requiring you to input the wireless security key(usually it's WEP or WPA encryption).

  • Access the router's setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser(IE or Chrome). On the login use the default username and password(admin, password).

  • After logging in. Look at the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the Wireless Key. If the wireless security is set to WEP, use the available Key code but If it's WPA, what you need is the passphrase.

Type the Key or Passphrase on your wireless laptop and it should connect to the router.

What is my wireless password

The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption key.
The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption key and this is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router's wireless settingsconfigured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also the wireless cards inall the laptops and or computers needs to be configured with these router'swireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate withyour wireless router.

I have a Netgear wireless router DG834G and i am trying to connect a wireless Brother printer and it is asking me if it is No Authentication or Encryption, No Authentication with WEP Encryption,...

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router usually http://192.168.0.1 else try http://www.routerlogin.com
3. Login to the router with the Username as admin and password as password (unless you have changed it).
4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

If I have helped you, please help me, and rate this suggestion the highest FixYa rating. If you cannot rate this post with the highest rating, then please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

Laptop cannot connect to router with WPA-PSK security

What I believe here is you are not typing in the pass-phrase(wireless password) correctly.

Go to 192.168.1.1 log on to the router ,in wireless section you will find the pass phrase,, create a new one and then try to connect.
