Is the power source good - AC adapter or batteries?

If ok, it sounds like the backlight for the LCD display is going bad. Many LCD displays these days have an integrated backlight that is built into the display so the entire display will need to be replaced.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good Luck,
- Jim

It depends on the quality (resolution) and size of the screen and how readily available it is. I have not purchased screens for a MP3 player yet but I have purchased them for digital cameras. They are not hard to replace at all. I wrote an article on how to replace a screen for a camera. See the following link.

The procedure will be pretty much the same for almost any device. The difference being the dissassembly of the the device.

The cost for for the Kodak screen was $31.00 but it may be less for your player if the screen is smaller and requires a lower quality (resolution) display.

honestly mate, i wouldn't even bother.the same thing happened to me, with the multi coloured strips and all, but with the strips i just pressed the scrrn and they didnt show, a week later the screen when black just like yours, but the music was still playing.
But as you said, aslong as it plays music who cares.
i know this isnt really a suggestion on who to wix it, but if it is still in the warrenty i'd take it back to the store you brought it from and get them to replace it(hopefully all the music you had on it is on you computer)
hope that helped

Screen that will not show but i could still hear hear music.

try hitting the reset button on the back of the device. you might also have the hold or lock button on. look at the sides of your devise and if you see any orange then slide the bar down until the whole side is black.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

FF - This is a common problem with Audiobooks - there is no way around it on this player. Drag files to Audiobooks folder to get them out of the "music" folder
