I recently purchased a Toshiba Desktop External Hard Drive, Part # PH3200U-1EXB. The drive will not stay turned on for more that a few minutes. What gives?

The rason why the drive doesnt remain turned on for more than five minutes is that because it is opeariting in power save mode.
This is to save the power consumption of the hard drive.
Do the following steps. >>Open start menu and type in "power options"binesheb.jpg
>>click on change plan settings binesheb_0.jpg

>>click on change advanced power setting binesheb_1.jpg

>>select the hard disk binesheb_2.jpg
>>click on settings and adjust the time as your wish binesheb_3.jpg

>>click on ok and save your settings

Dell Latitude D630 Laptop, no Bootable device when trying to start laptop, but hard drive works find on other computer usb drive

It sounds like you have lost the boot manager file. The boot manager is a file set up by Windows to stop hackers from getting in to your system and if a problem occurs it is deleted by Windows.
When you try to boot and the desktop gets to POST, teh Dell page, quicklt hit F8
When, and it will take a few goes to get the timing right, you are succesfull a DOS menu will be shown on your screen
Select repair and follow the instructions.
Hope this helps.

I am unable to access the internet. (My computer

Do you have good Ant-virus software installed & have you run it recently. Also use Adaware & spybot Search & Destroy to remove any malicious software. Make sure that your network card is functioning correctly & update the drivers for it (download these from a working machine)
Turn off your firewall temporarily & try to connect to make sure that it is not causing the problem.

Old Dell Optiplex GX100, hard drive trouble.

RAM could be bad, generally when its doing a dump, ram is bad. Although it could actually be the hard drive itself. Give both a test

My computer will not boot, what is the problem

Sounds like the power supply in the computer. You'd have to try substituting another.

It takes @least 30 minutes to boot

It sounds like your computer is not recognising the hard drive. Go into the bios (keep pressing the delete key as your computer starts up ) and find 'hard drive auto select' and press enter to see if your computer can recognise the hard drive. Even if this works it sounds like your hard drive is on the way out.
1/ Make sure no floppy or CD in drives
2/ Check Hard Drive cable connections, both ends
3/ Go into BIOS and check drive is recognised in there

I cant get my computer to read my external drive

If your Operating System is Windows XP or Vista? Then disconnect the external hard drive and start the computer, and let windows load until at least a minute or two after your desktop appears then connect the External drive and open "My Computer" to see if the drive is shown there along with your internal Drive(s).
The above works to recognize lost external devices for me most of the time. Good luck.
