Question about Performance Teknique ICBM-9540 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Not enough power delivered

Hello!
i just bought a performance teknique icbm-9540 ang hooked it up with my brand new pioneer 7950 head unit, 2 - 6.5"mohawk component speakers in front, 2 - 6.5 mohawk coaxial speakers at the rear and 1 blaupunk gtb-300 12" subwoofer with enclosure..

my problem is why my icbm-9540 have'nt got enough juice to power my system? i have to put the volume controll the the highest just to get a louder sound, there's no power loss on the wires and cables because i had used 4guage cable wires on supply and 12guage speaker wires, all of them are bolted tightly and there are no short circuits.

i've chosen to buy performance teknique amp because i thought it will give me big boom on my system, but why not gave me any satisfaction?
is it just cosmetic look and have'nt got 2000watts as indicated on the amp?

please help me!

btw please don't think of any other problem on my system because as i've said there are no problems on them and i've tried to replace my icbm-9540 with an old cheap china thunder audio amp with cheap metal casing but came out fine with big boom!:(

    thanks for your reply!:D
but it's not a gain setting problem, even if i set all gain control to the highest there sill not enough power!
has anybody tried this product before?
as indicated in the packaging, it is rated 2000watts rms and up to 750watts per channel maximum.

This sounds like a gain setting problem on your amp. The best way to adjust is to set your volume on the head unit to about 75% volume and then adjust the gain up until it sounds distorted a little. Back it off jst enough for the distortion to go away and you are set. Only other thing to try is use a multimeter set on Ohms to test the resistance of your speaker configuration. Looks like 2000 is th peak power (not RMS) and is only possible at high current configurations. You are probably running at 4 Ohms, but this amp only puts out rated power at 1 ohm stereo or 2 ohm bridged. Many people say Performance Technique are overrated, so maybe not even what it is rated at - 350 x 2 @ 2 ohms bridged (probably only about 175 x 2 at 4 ohms bridged)

Is the icbm-9711 is a good product

I've never used the products before, but the amps are usually pretty good. I would go with a different company though. I would go with Pioneer, Kenwood, or even Alpine. I know they're a little more expensive, but they've ALL been making head units longer. Several years ago Kenwood hit their 25th anniversary.

I have 2 perfomance teknique 700wts and i dont know what kind of amplifier use

Hello perezmagdiel,

That 700 watts is maximum peak power, not RMS. If you're looking to not spend a lot of money for an amp, but want something that sends enough power to the Performance Teknique's, I'd recommend a 2-channel like the Boss Diablo D400.2. It's plently powerful enough and if you change out later, the amp can be bridged. And for inexpensive, it's got a lot of nice features, including a remote level control. It's 2ohm stable in stereo. Nice, for under $70.

Hope this helps.

DD, JL and pioneer in that order. I don't recommend any particular size but 12s are a good compromise.
