The problem is with the firmware.
you need to update the firmware of the cam.
you may find the firmware update on the internet on the manufacturers site.

format the card using card reader and right click in my computer and select format then in the dialog window select the file system or type as NTFS and click the format button.

Try formatting FAT file system only,, if still problem, check with some spare card..... if that does, your card is dead..

there are commonly three types of fiile systems -fat , fat32 and ntfs.

Most such devices including mobile phones use fat file system. So format your card with fat file system,, later you can also try fat32 or ntfs (if you dont sure which file system your camera supports)..

When i turn my camera on it says i need to format the SD card so i hit okay then it deletes all my pictures and says unable to format

The contacts on the card are dirty. Insert and remove the card several times and try it again. You can recover pictures off an erased card. Google SD card file recovery software.

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

Memory card requires formatting

Have you tried a different card, that may help. Plus, there are cameras that will not "like" certain cards. If the card is...let's say...an 8 gig...some cameras can't read that or even write to it. Try a different card and a 1 or 2 gig card too. Good Luck.

Unable to use card

Firstly, what size memory hard do you have? Is it an SDHC? Secondly, have you checked that the memory card isn't locked (there is a switch on the side of it). Has it worked with other memory cards?

Olympus u790sw unable to view photos / download

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup - right arrow to Format- You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.

Unable to format memory card

You mentioned in your post "the above camera", but I can't find the make/model of your camera? Check on the manufacturer's website to see what the largest capacity card can be used in your camera. Knowing the make/model and searching for the message on the internet can yield better answers to your question.

Unable to use card

The memory card needs to be formatted by the camera. The card can be formatted in section 1 of the playback menu. Formatting will erase all data from the card. You can download the manual on the following link: http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/manuals/digital_cameras/dimage-z/dimage_z1/D_Z1_E.pdf
