Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

RCA 52 I'm looking at buying a used RCA 52" Projection tv. Its about 3.5 to 4 yrs old. Im not sure of the moedl # but it is silver in color with the speaker cover below is a darker gray. The owner sent me a picture of the tv and explained the problem. When there is words on screen such as weather channel, some letter might be missing of a word. And the word is in an arc or curve. She said they called and the tv repair shop said the convergance needed to be reset and it would cost $200 to fix. I'm wanting to know if this is true and if this is what the problem sounds like? Also, I'm trying to get a parger tv for a cheaper price. I've found a lot of these tvs with the same problem for cheap. Is it a good idea to buy a tv needing something like this? Or could it end up needing more to fix than the tv is worth? Thanks for a response!!!

take the front speaker cover off, then remove the four screws on the cover behind it. you will see a 2"x2" black thing with 6 controls on it 3 on top three on bottom, your looking for "screen". they should also be marked r g and b, try turning the blue down (counterclockwise). it may help a little and prolong the life of your tv

Hi, There are usually 1 or 2 fans inside the TV's. Could be worn bearings, or fan blade interference. Sorry, without my electric ear working, I can only guess.

Open up the back, the convergence ICs are large and attached to a heat sink. They should be marked STKxxx. In most cases, replacing the ICs is enough. Sometimes the feeder resistor fails because of too much current draw. Change the ICs before looking for more parts. Also, try resoldering the ICs. Bad connections can cause this problem as well.
