The architecture of vista has many variations from older versions of windows.... go to the software properties and in the compatibility tab set it to the version of the windows in which the software used to work... it may help.. if it doesnt work even that way then u have to go for the latest version of the software... no other way....

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I now believe that my problem could be that my 14 year old golf game requires a Vesa driver which is not on my HP pavilion zd8000 laptop with XP. Although vesa is supplied on the CD golf game I cannot get...

You could try running the game trough DosBox, which is a good way to get older games to run, or VDMSound, which lets you run them in a windows dos shell.
Hope that helps.
Cheers from NZ

Windows xp vs vista. what are at least 2 features that are different between these operating systems? what are the advantages and disadvantage of windows xp over vista?

Vista Is newer and will have more support from new software and drivers for new hardware. Some functions and menus are different if you are used to XP. Needs more memory and disk space.
XP Is smaller and leaner. You can fit XP on a 2G (dos) partition. Works well for older machines.

This better be god sent. I have a dell desk top at home, 5 yr old. Used it with care. It is vista system based. Tried to install McAfee total protection plan and did not work at all. Uninstalled...

Normally windows vista no problem to communicate with any anti-virus software unless the software is damaged or not supported by windows vista so do not let it work. (If it really can work on vista, most likely operating system you use there is a problem)But do not worry, you still have many choices, for example try to use anti-virus or improve the problem in your operating system.
Hopefully this can help, thank you

Reinstalling windows on desktop

you will not be able to get the drivers for the packard bell computer, especially for windows XP. the computer was discontinued way before XP came out, as well as the company going out of business. There is a new packard bell company, but based in Europe only. In addition, when you use the HP cd, it will probably say not compatible with non-hp computers.
your best bet is to download you important information and store it on a new unit.

How do i reboot my Windows vista hp pavilion elite m9177 v pc

Click on the Windows button on the bottom left of the screen (where the start button used to be). On the bottom right of the menu you should see a circle icon open at the top with a line. next to that is a lock icon and next to that is an arrow that points to the right. hover the mouse over the arrow and a menu will appear. click restart or shutdown.

Running a dos batch file in background in windows

Batch file for what?

I once ran across a software called Dosbox that I used to run a customers dos based notes program in XP. It worked well, not sure about batch files, but worth a shot I suppose.

You can find info on it here - http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/
