I have an A540. I noticed that it started to go blank but if I played around with the buttons it would spring to life again. A week later it went blank and never sprang back to life. I'm convinced it's a CCD image sensory problem that Canon has an advisory out for. The problem is that the A540 is not in that advisory. I'm stuck having to plead with Canon to fix my camera and convince them I did nothing to cause the problem. They also want to give people an inferior refurbished model at a low cost instead of correcting the problem in the defective camera.

Jvsnype and ygjeff21, have you checked to see if the pistures also come up as blank or distorted (a sure sign of a CCD failure)? If the pictures are OK, then it might be that you accidentally hit the DISP button, or the camera has a loose LCD ribbon cable connector. The reason I would suspect either is that ygjeff mentioned that the LCD would spring to life when he played with the buttons on the back of the camera.

If and only if the camera still takes good pics, and the DISP button has been checked, then would next recommend reseating the LCD ribbon cable into its connector (ALSO ONLY IF THE CAMERA IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY). The following link may be of some help. Wouldn't recommend going any farther than the first three pictures. You just want to jiggle or reseat the ribbon cable where the LCD connects to the circuit board, nothing else:

I deleted all pics from A540 but ended up with "no image" message on black screen. The shutter won't open either. It appears to be stuck in viewing mode.

hi,

first: be sure the battery is full charge.

second: by a compressor try to blow around the shatter and lens .

third : 3 or 4 times try to inflict a blow on the lens by your palm .

at the end see the result

good luck

My Canon PowerShot SD880 IS has a black display screen. I cannot take pics now with the black screen, but the display DOES work for pics taken before the screen went black. Please help!

I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. I found one posting elsewhere that said that this was a "common" problem. That person's camera was under warranty. Mine isn't, but it's less than 2 years old.

Black Screen

But does it take usefull pictures? I mean, after you take the picture, can you download it onto the computer?

  • If yes, you probably deactivated the back LCD by mistake. Look for a "display" button (or similar) and push it. It will cycle through all of the available display modes.

  • If not, it's probably a software error. Take the camera to a local electronist or Canon dealer for repairs.

Hi, my powershot S60 auto setting will only take movie images no still pic's. I've reset to manuf. settings but still no change. Any ideas whats wrong & how do I fix it?

What do you mean by "no still pics"? What exactly is happening? If the camera is showing a black or distorted screen when set to photo, and photos that are taken with the black screen also show up black or distorted, then this would likely be a CCD imager failure, a common occurrence for your model camera.
If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Connecting the Canon Powershot A540 to a computer

First you should have a program installed in your computer to transfer your pictures, best is canon's.
Once the USB cable is connected you should turn your camera on, automatictly the program detects your camera and asks you to press the transfering button. Good Luck.

Screen has gone white

Either your LCD is damaged or the cable connecting it to the rest of the camera is loose. I would suggest taking it to be repaired.

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries.
