SMC2804WBR-G Cannot connect Wireless

I set up security to WPA only, with a passphrase, but when I enter it in on my Windows 7 laptop, it cannot connect. When there are NO security settings, it connects just fine on the SMC2804WBR-G

Have you checked the encryption type, and verified that you have set aes or tkip correctly to match your router? That would be my first guess.
My second guess is that you have mistyped your passphrase or have a trailing space in one place and not in the other or a capital letter and a small letter or some other typo. Can any computers or phones connect to the wi-fi with wpa on? You could try WEP, even though it is laughably weak, since the key is in hex and not therefore misinterpretable, just to see whether any encryption will work.
But my first guess is encryption type (assuming that it is not detecting it, like my cellphone and PS/3 do).

Presario CQ42-305 will not connect to wifi after reformat.

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is configured in the Wireless settings in the Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase or WPA or WPA2 key that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address For information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in the laptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

How to connect?

Some later model wireless routers have the Password (ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router and this information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adapters in your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit your requirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorized access. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cable from your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computer and enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login and password and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID and Encryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 to generate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to 63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born in January 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops can communicate with your wireless router.

How to secure and setup a password for my SMC barricade G smc2804wbr router using a toshiba labtop. I do not have the intallation CD drive. please help

You need to log into the wireless router either by a computer that successfully connects wirelessly or by physically connecting with an ethernet cable. Once connected, log into the router by open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari), and typing the router's address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into the Address (or URL) line. The default usernameand password is usually "admin" & "admin" or "admin" & "password". Once successfully logged in, look for a tab or link that says "Wireless" or "Security". You'll be able to change whether security is enabled or disabled, and the password associated with it. Your security options are WEP or WPA (or WPA-PSK). WPA-PSK is the most secure, but WEP is also an acceptable choice. Select the security option of your choice and either enter text into the passphrase generator or choose your own password and type it into one of the security key text fields. If you use a password that is not a plain english combination of letters and numbers, be sure to write it down so that you can enter it as needed on other wireless devices that need to access your router (ie-pda phones, game consoles, laptops, desktops, etc). Be sure to save changes so that the security settings and password is saved.
Let me know how you make out.

Security Keys or Passphrase

  1. Now we will secure you wireless connection to prevent others from connecting. Under the Home tab, click the Wireless option from the left.
  2. Beside the SSID option, enter the name for your wireless network connection.
  3. Beside Security, select WPA. If you can’t connect using WPA, then select WEP. Using WPA will provide a much more secure connection that using WEP. For more information about WEP and WPA please read Wireless Security: WEP and WPA.
  4. Click AES beside the Cypher Type.
  5. Make sure PSK is selected beside PSK/EAP.
  6. Now you must get very creative. Specify a long Passphrase with a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and punctuation. Once again, please read Creating Secure Passwords for tips on how to do this. In this case the longer the better. Make sure you write down this key somewhere, either on a piece of paper or in a text document on your computer. You will need this information when you connect to your wireless network.
  7. Enter your passphrase next to Passphrase and again beside Confirmed Passphrase.
  8. Click Apply to save your security settings.
  9. Now you are all done securing your wireless router and network. All you need to do is connect to your network, and enter your Passphrase exactly as you specified it. I won’t go into detail on how to connect to your wireless network, as I will save that for another post.
