I have a 27af41 and the other day it started to have a trapazoidal shape inside the picture with thin blue lines then the set shuts off and the power light starts blinking. after unplugging and plugginf back in it works for a little while then the same happens again. does this sound like a power supply issue or what should i check? sometimes it has no problem.

Vertical scan section circuit fault. Check and replace damaged component/s at its vertical scan output section circuit. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. now only visible in a thin horizontal line.
first of all you reduce brightness to monimum.
it just to protect your tv from crt demage.
your problem is in horizontal output section as you have mentioned that week or so ago the right and left bottom edges of the picture began to move in like a sideways triangle filled with black so this sympton is due to hor. section problem.
your flyback transformer or horizontal output might be defective.
but remember check for power supply is ok from
hope this will help.
a bright thin line in centre is called horizontal line.
first of all do not keep tv on unless it is rectified.
If you want to put on tv keep brightness minimum to protect your screen for any demage.
your problem is in vertical section.
1 check vertical supply.
2 check parts in vertical section or loose contact.
3 yoke connrctor loose
4 ic defective
It is not serious problem can be rectified easily
your problem is a more technical problem you will need a tech to look at your set if you are not a tech you wont be able to do it your self. contact a tech to repair your set the problem is in the power supply or related circuit.good luck.
Those lines sound like "retrace lines" and several things can cause them. The most common are shorts inside the picture tube and shorted semiconductors in the video driver circuits. They can also be seen if the blue screen voltage is too high or if someone has tampered with the screen voltage control.
You have whats known in the biz as a cold solder connection on the vertical output IC or on the associated components. Not a job for the handi-man unless you know the issues with safty, and precautions to take with Hi voltage inside of tv sets. Shouldnrt cost much for the local shop to find your problem . Now on rare occations the poor connections are inside the IC and the IC has to be replaced. Good Luck
wow this set has several problems that cause almost the same symtoms. There is a b+ filter cap off the flyback that supplys screen drive voltage th the crt that gets leaky and gets warm when the sets on. Also theres a resistor that feeds the voltage that gets warm and a cold solder connection appears but its dosent look like a bad solder connection so just resolder it. as a matter of fact most of those largewr resistors in this set causes all sorts of complaints soI resolder most of them just to stop any problems and a friend in the tv business still told me in one case he had an intermittant crt. and x ray protection cuircut problems.. Hope this helps GOOD LUCK
