    Very likely what eradiostore said. They are not programmed to each other. The MU21 has a small oval button inside the PTT switch. Press it down while trying to talk to the MU21 from another radio. If the MU21 "hears" the message, you have a Tone Code problem. Now you know the problem, the solution is not as easy. The MU21 has 38 possible Tones, the CP200 has those 38, plus I think it is 115 more. The MU21 can only do the 38 "basic" Tones. Get to a Dealer. CP200 radios are not consumer devices.

Sounds like you do not have your radios programmed to match one another. The MU21CV is a user programmable model. You might call your local Motorola dealer or one of the companies online to have someone walk you through programming the radio(s). With this model it can appear the radio is not powering up, when it simply is not programmed correctly.

Hi,

The problem of failing to power on can be caused by:
1. dead battery (may no longer hold a charge);
2. corroded battery terminals or connectors;
3. open wiring from the battery casing to the internal circuitry;
4. defective on/off switch; and/or
5. defective regulator component(s) on the main PCB.

On the other hand, problem on receive can be caused by:
a. defective or worn out volume control (if manual/rotary);
b. defective or worn out squelch control (if manual/rotary);
c. mismatch in PL or CTCSS code; and/or
d. defective internal speaker.

Most can be checked with the use of a continuity tester or a DVM. Repairs involve knowledge and familiarity with electronic components and circuitry and perhaps even the use of a soldering iron. Should you not be comfortable doing it yourself, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of help. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

What motorola radios are compatible with mu21cv, mu22cv and mu24cv

Any Uhf Motorola business radio can be programmed to match. None of the toy radios will ever work. (GMRS/FRS)
Easiest to self program will be the the XTN, also called CP100, and RD (RDU) and even older Spirit and SP10 are possible, but harder. RD's are really hard without the programming cable, available from a dealer.

How do you transmit from a cb radio to a talkabout fr60 and vice versa

CB radios and TalkAbout FR60 radios will not communicate together. CBs are 26-27.5 MHz and TalkAbout radios operate on FRS and GMRS frequencies between 462-467 MHz.

I have a Motorola MU21CV with a overly sensitive 'push-to-talk-switch'. Sometimes even though you press it and get the "red" transmit indication - it's not transmitting. Is there anyway to...

  • You can open the radio up and clean the switch up a bit but it sounds like the switch may be worn. It's a simple on off push switch. You may just go to your local hardware store or electronics store and get a switch and solder it in.

When i try to talk on another motorola spirit mu21cv it makes a cracking/static sound and it transmits what im saying but i have to have it very loud for it to work and even then it makes a very loud...

Two things come to mind. First, you may have a bad battery. It is typical for a bad battery to cause the radio to have static, or poor transmit. Second, you may not have the radios set to the same frequency as one another, or one is on a narrowband frequency, and the other is wideband. (Depending on the age of the two units.)

Try switching the batteries between a working radio and the staticy radio. See if the problem moves to the other radio. If so, replace your batteries.

Check your programming, if you don't know how, contact your local Motorola dealer or give us a call (google our name). We can walk you through programming over the phone.

Lastly, if all these suggestions fail, your radio may be in need of repair. Flat rate repair is currently around $69 ea.

Best regards.

Depending on the type of microphone used, if not the type using the speaker as a microphone, it may be damaged. I would though, suggest you remove the battery, open the case and allow the innards to dry in a warm place for several days. Even daily exposure to the sun should work fine.

Transmit button on the lapel mic will not key the radio

Two things which come to mind, one would be if the PTT on the remote mic is bad/defective, second would be you are plugging the audio device in with the radio turned on.

If your remote mic is failing, the PTT is a repairable item, as is the cord on most models.
