when trying to scan or copy first half of the page goes well then the scan gives a grinding noise and the remaining of the image is unrecognizable

A very helpful PC World employee thought that our MP 600 scanner needed it's re-set button switched one way or the other, a bit like re-setting a central heating boiler when it's cut out. He said it was on the left under the scanner but we don't seem to be able to find it. If we do and it works I'll be letting you know

hmm..well..there's always something new under the sun. I'm not quite sure that this scanner has such a button, but maybe you have the executive model?

What are the error codes on my printer,5010 & 6100?

The 5010 error indicates a scanner error. The scanner unit cannot detect the home position, or the scanner unit warming-up is not done properly at power-on. On the LCD, "Scanner is not operating correctly." is displayed.
The 6100 error indicates a logic board error. The check sum value is incorrect in the ROM check at hard-power-on.
Fixing these errors is more expensive than replacing the printer. Sorry.

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.
If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.

1. On the operator panel, press and hold the button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Canon mp600 pixma; it just started doing this when I tried to print; now I can't seem to be able to do anything with it. I assumed it was due to one of the ink cartridges being out and so I replaced...

MY PRINTER SHOWS 5010 CODE HOW DO I CORRECT THIS PROBLEM PLEASE ?

Error code 5010 indicates carriage lift mechanism error. That means that the carriage did not move up or down properly. You need to replace PR lift shaft assy, Sheet feed unit, Logic board assy, Carriage lift sensor unit. Before replacement of the logic board assy, check the waste ink amount (by service test print or EEPROM information print). If the waste ink amount is 7% or more, also replace the ink absorber kit when replacing the logic board assy.

Error code 5010

Canon only lists three 4-digit error codes for the MP500: 1700, 1851, and 1856. After much research and finding many other MP500 owners getting this same strange code, I have come to conclude that it's the code of DEATH. Sometimes you may get strange codes if using compatible ink cartridges. Unless you can get the printer to reset and clear, the only other thing to try is to go back to the Canon driver download page and reload the correct driver: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=11995

Xerox error code 09,038.46:350??

Hi. The error code you are referencing is referring to Black Ink Stick Count Failure.
  1. Make sure you are using Phaser 8500 ink sticks
  2. Make sure the ink sticks slide properly
  3. Remove any broken or partial ink sticks from the ink-loading bin
If the fault code is still displayed you will need to contact support to schedule a service call.

Error code 5010

Yes, same thing happens to me...Error code 5010...and flashing green and orange...alternating lights.

I was trying to photocopy (in basic black, not colour). I had a few pages to copy. I got this 5010 Error code after EACH copy!

I had to turn off the printer after each copy and then turn it back on for the next copy. That's not the worse of it.....once I turned the printer back on and hit copy again...the printer took a VERY long time to scan the item for the next copy. It took me a good 40 minutes to copy 15 pages.
Sooooo irritating!!!!!

Anyone know what to do?

I've also had the paper jam on me tons of times. I am really disappointed with this product. I would not recommend this printer to anyone!

Re: Error Code 5010

it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.
