Question about HP DeskJet 1000cxi InkJet Printer

4 Answers

1000Cxi inkjet The clear plastic ribbon that spans the length of the printer behind the carriage has been knocked off its bracket. I can not find where it should attach to nor how to attach it. If you could give me some direction for finding an exploded drawing or something that explains how to fix this problem I would be very appreciative.

This is the encoder strip and it tells the machine the location of the carriage for printing and cleaning.

The first thing you will need to do is unlock the carriage. It is usually locked while not in operation. Power on the machine and wait for the carriage to move and power off the machine straight away. You now can move the carriage.

The encoder is located roughly above the rail and would have two metal pins on each side to located it. I will try to track down a helpful picture.

Try turning the printer on, then unplugging it to turn it off. While off, push the carriage all the way to the right. Plug back in and turn on.

If this does not fix the problem, check the location tape inside the printer. This is supposed to be a clear strip of plastic that spans the length of the printer on the inside with a bunch of little line on it. You will probably need a flashlight to see it clearly. Sometimes this strip gets dirty and the carriage gets "lost". If the plastic strip is really dark and you cannot make out individual lines, this may be the case.

To clean the strip, use a lint free cloth and clean water ONLY (distilled if you have it). Cleaning chemicals will often wipe off the location tick marks with any ink on there. Wet the cloth with water and run GENTLY it back and forth along the clear plastic ribbon. You should see the cloth discolor with the ink. Move the carriage so you can clean the whole strip to the point of being able to clearly see individual tick marks at regularly spaced intervals (about .5mm).

If this does not take care of the problem, the issue may be in the carriage motor and, depending on how much the printer cost you, it may be more cost effective to replace.

Service error 5100

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error 5100 on canon is a Carriage Home Position Error. Try reseating the printer cartridges. If that doesn't help make sure there is no paper stopping the carriage from moving right to left. Try cleaning the plastic strip (encoder strip, behind the carriage) that runs the length of the carriage, it may be contaminated. Use alcohol and a swab (Q-tip) to clean. Before cleaning unplug it from the power supply. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

CHECK PRINTHEAD PATH

Check to make sure that the front top of the L bracket that shields the ink tubes on the carriage is not rubbing against the inside top front metal edge that is just behind the clear plastic cover. And make sure your rails are cleaned and then oiled with NYE oil. There is a problem with the design of this machine, where there is a bracket on the top of the carriage assembly that pushes the ink tubes towards the inside front of the machine causing unneccesary rubbing.

Where is the carrriage located on my hp 7310 officejet printer?

The carriage is the unit that holds your ink cartridges, usually parked on the right side. When you have carriage stall or carriage jam you usually need to clean the clear plastic strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly, and make sure there are no scraps stopping the travel of the carriage.

Where is the encoder strip on brother fax machines?

I am familiar wih some inkjet models. The encoder strip would usually be behind the ink cartridge carriage. It is a thin clear plastic strip across the length of the carriage. The ink cartridge housing glides back and forth along the encoder strip.

Clear carrier jam is error message

Not that difficult check if behind the carriage(part holding cartridges) has broken off.Its a small plastic latch about 3 inches in length.
If not then try moving the carriage manually with your hand and see if it moves if it doesn't press and hold the power button and while holding the buttons unplug and re-plug the power cable to the printer .Clean the carriage rod with alcohol on a cotton swab/lint free cloth and then see if the problem surfaces if it does then its time to get a new printer

The carriage uses a code strip to keep track of its location. This is a very thin and very fragile strip of plastic material behind the carriage. If the code strip becomes dirty with dust or ink overspray, the carriage sensor can't read the code bars, and the printer shows a carriage jam error. This is the most common reason for this error. Very carefully clean the code strip with a clean lint-free cloth (I don't recommend paper towels) with isopropyl or denatured alcohol. You can use a q-tip also. Gently rub the code strip front and back with the alcohol-soaked cloth along the entire length, being careful not to pull the strip since the ends can easily tear. If this does not clear the error, there may be dust or dirt clogging the carriage sensor itself.
