Question about Sony KDS-50A2000 50" HDTV
It is as if the tv is still powered on with the red light blinking 4 times then it pauses then repeats. I press the power button to turn it on and it tries and the red light then startes to blink green for about 5 seconds then a click in the back of the tv and the red light comes back as before. I tried unpluging and pluging in other places but did not work. Help please!
I had the same problem. Red LED blinking 4 times. This error means that one of the fans is NOT spinning! To check.... unplug the tv.... turn the TV around to a well lighted area so that you can see the fans in the back... plug the TV in and turn it on. Watch for the fans in the back... and see if they are spinning. If not... that is the reason why the TV will not turn on! In my case, the fan next to the lamp was stuck for some reason. I removed the the cover of the TV from the back... and cleaned the fan, made sure all connectors to it were properly connected... and viola! The TV is perfect again! Enjoy!

Hi - had the 4 blink (red) LED problem. The green LED would flick nine times and then go into this cycle of 4 blinks on red. No screen / picture just volume. Sony were not much help and the authoriszed service stores wanted $150 just to come out and assess. So here's what I did (taking the lead from best solution above).
I took the back off and gently vacuumed the rear fan. I checked the power lead connector too by unclipping it from the circuit board and re-attaching it. (back right hand side as you view from the rear) I tried to power up but at that stage, no luck.
I then took the rear lamp out and again vacuumed the dust that had accumultated in that compartment. I re-inserted the bulb, put the bulb cover door back on (essential as it would not power up for me without it) and hey presto - my beloved TV is back.
It seems to me that these things are hyper-sensitive to dust and that with a bit of gentle maintenance and cleaning some of these problems can get resolved.
I'm sure a repair ship would have done the same as I did hear (20 minute job) and would have slapped me with a several hundred dollar bill.

I had the same problem after having the tv for two years - service plan ran out three days ago....go figure! I followed solution 1 from lapidot and wouldn't ya know...it worked!!! The fans were very dusty and after a good cleaning....problem solved! Thank you lapidot for saving me hundreds of dollars!! :)

I have the same problem with this TV and was told by Best Buy service and Sony service that the four blinks is the service code for the main exhaust fan malfunction. They are coming back this week to replace the fan.

What the solution is getting at is that a chip in the TV is bad and only service can fix it. It is not something you can fix. Call a repair person out.

Your lamp has blown. You can order the lamp from Sony and replace it yourself. You can purchase the lamp here:
Other vendors also sell this lamp at a cheaper price (check the net)

I have the same problem with my unit. I've been removing the bulb and just replace it back and unit will work again. I probably need to vacuum or check the fan out too.
