I tried unpluging and pluging in other places but did not work. Help please!

I had the same problem. Red LED blinking 4 times. This error means that one of the fans is NOT spinning! To check.... unplug the tv.... turn the TV around to a well lighted area so that you can see the fans in the back... plug the TV in and turn it on. Watch for the fans in the back... and see if they are spinning. If not... that is the reason why the TV will not turn on! In my case, the fan next to the lamp was stuck for some reason. I removed the the cover of the TV from the back... and cleaned the fan, made sure all connectors to it were properly connected... and viola! The TV is perfect again! Enjoy!

Hi - had the 4 blink (red) LED problem. The green LED would flick nine times and then go into this cycle of 4 blinks on red. No screen / picture just volume. Sony were not much help and the authoriszed service stores wanted $150 just to come out and assess. So here's what I did (taking the lead from best solution above).

I took the back off and gently vacuumed the rear fan. I checked the power lead connector too by unclipping it from the circuit board and re-attaching it. (back right hand side as you view from the rear) I tried to power up but at that stage, no luck.

I then took the rear lamp out and again vacuumed the dust that had accumultated in that compartment. I re-inserted the bulb, put the bulb cover door back on (essential as it would not power up for me without it) and hey presto - my beloved TV is back.

It seems to me that these things are hyper-sensitive to dust and that with a bit of gentle maintenance and cleaning some of these problems can get resolved.

I'm sure a repair ship would have done the same as I did hear (20 minute job) and would have slapped me with a several hundred dollar bill.

Good luck.

What the solution is getting at is that a chip in the TV is bad and only service can fix it. It is not something you can fix. Call a repair person out.

Sorry.

The STANDBY light is flashing on the television and there is no picture or sound. Solution
The STANDBY light will flash if an issue is detected within the television. This can sometimes be resolved by simply following the steps below to reset the television.
  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.

I have the same problem with this TV and was told by Best Buy service and Sony service that the four blinks is the service code for the main exhaust fan malfunction. They are coming back this week to replace the fan.

Same problem. Purchased TV April 2007. Great picture.

However, 13 months later am experiencing identical frustration. Warranty is only one year. Have been a Sony loyal customer for decades - as such am extremely surprised. Called Sony Support number listed on TV. They indicated that it is a service issue and "will work with me to resolve".

Am extremely concerned that this may be a design flaw that will keep reoccurring (read "endless money pit"). Am presently awaiting on the service technician to tell me what wrong.

It also happened about a month ago - I unplugged TV and it began working again. But, this time it appears dead. Did not work after being unplugged for several hours.

same issue. appeared within a few weeks of warranty expiration. i've reseated and then replaced the bulb, each time getting a little more life out of the set before problem reappears. checked the fan to make sure cooling is functional. the only authorized service center in town estimates $400 to fix it plus $125 to transport it. first time in 20 years a sony product has taken a dump on me (so i passed on the extended warranty) but there won't be many of these 500 buck repair trips before this thing winds up in the dumpster.

My TV also started blinking red in the power indicator 4 times on my KDS-50A2000. I turned it off, unplugged it and still same problem. The TV will not power up. I have had my TV since November 2006 and it has been great.

Is this an issue with this TV?
