It's easier as you think, just download all drivers from acer, install them, restart, if cam is not installed in the control panel, extract all the *.zip files from acer into one folder (e.g. "CAM").
Go back to control panel, klick on the non installed webcam > driver > driver from directory "CAM" and the cam will finally be installed ;)
(Tried on Windows 7, now finaly it WORKS!!!)

I had same problem, tried driver downloads, etc. Actually all I had to do in the end is wiggle the cam - sounds illiogical but if I wiggled it side to side a few times, it would start again

I know this makes no sense but I found the solution on another web site and unbelievably it worked. I tried off and on for 2 years to fix this following ideas from a lot of web sites. I did the delete of the pictures folder, reloaded the driver, etc. All that stuff. The last symptom of the problem was a message saying the camera was in use by another application when I tried to start it. BUT- the solution was to spin the camera around so it pointed away from the keyboard. Then it launched and I was able to get an image on it. You can then spin the camera back toward the person sitting at the keyboard. If the image appears upside down, go into advanced settings and play with the image orientation.

I downgraded an Acer Aspire 5630 laptop from Vista to XP. The webcam is built in with a "1.3 MEGA" to the left of the camera and a green LED turns on when camera is working correctly. I installed the Logitech driver from the acer website. Initially it worked but on reboot it would not work anymore. In device manager this webcam showed up as USB\VID_046D&PID_09B0\5&20D0F3FF&0&4 as an "Acer USB Camera (OrbiCam).
I turned off the laptop. I then took the four screws off the plastic casing around the LCD screen. Once this was off I was able to take the plastic strip that is located above the keyboard (where the power button is). Next, I traced the connector from the webcam to connector, it is a 5 pin white connector. I marked it with a pencil to make sure I would remember which side is on top. I then VERY CAREFUL disconnected the webcam connector. I left it unconnected and turned on the laptop using the power button next to where the connection is at. After Windows XP came up fully and on the internet, I very carefully plugged in the connector. Windows found it as an unknown USB device and I had Windows automatically find the right drivers for it. I then launched the "Acer OrbiCam" application and it worked perfectly. I rebooted to see if the fix would work still and it did. I then turned the laptop off, disconnected power and battery, and put everything back together. The webcam is still working.
Summary: physically disconnect the webcam with laptop powered off then connect it with power on.

Try wiggling and reinstalling the soft ware for the camera

See if the latest drivers are installed for the device, by going to Acer's website, and seeing if they have updated them recently, or if there is a new firmware for the webcam.
