There is good information on this site: http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/sonyadj.html#suggested

I would suggest that before you access the service menu and make any adjustments to write the factory settings down for future reference.
Good Luck.

I have a ghosting problem with my Sony XBR800 TV?

Sony is saying I have to repair my ghosting problem with an optical engine for $1650 plus $395 installation. Guess life expectancy on this TV is only 5 years. I'll think twice about a Sony in the future. Our super bowl party will be great for Sony. When everyone asks "whats wrong with your TV", I'll have to say Sony said 5 years is just about right

Red ghosting

There is a bulletin that addresses this problem, but you must follow it EXACTLY as it invoolves changing settings in the service menu and you could easily make your TV unusable if you change the wrong thing. if you want the bulletin i could send it, but I would recommend you have a Sony qualified tech do the adjustment

GHOSTING

Hey joseph, actually replacing the optical Block is not necessary at all, all you need to do is get into the "Service Mode" of the Tv and change a few setting around, did it a few weeks ago and now my TV looks perfect, no reason to waster $1200 as sony is trying to get over on all us consumers.

Convergence problem with TV Pojection Sony KDP65WS550

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Sony kf60xbr800 need to set the convergence?

Use the sony remote to pull up the menue for the tv and then find the convergence menue and try to adjust it there. Most likly it will not adjust and the circuit is bad. This will cost somewhere around $300-$500 to have a repair man fix. It is not common for convergence to go out for no reason.

Sony KP61HS10 and timewarner digital cable box. Don't know which is the problem. Problem is a blue/white ghost on all channels. Tried unplug both units, tried flash focus. Shadow/ghost is now curved image...

I'm going to guess that these ghosts are of different colors too. This is most likely a convergence problem. Try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs first. If that fails, replace them.
These ICs are large and black, attached to a heatsink. They will be marked STKxxx.
Keep us posted.

Red convergence out of alingment

If you cant adjust it with the convergence option on the menu you will need new ICs. They are inexpensive. I can post a link where you can get replacement ICs and free step by step instructions on how to do the repair yoursel. The Conversion ICs will have STK numbers such as STK392-110 or simallar There are two of them identical attached to a large heat sink.
