Not sure about your model but have you tried the HP website for downloads? One more possible option, sometimes going to control panel and deleting the printer and its software under programs and also the printer, restarting the computer and then having it install itself works. I know these are frustrating problems. Hope it helps.
You can download installation software for most older HP products at hp.com. Go to the support and downloads area. Make sure you know the model number [deskjet f4180 works] and your version of the Windows operating system. I just tried this and it works for your printer. If you really, really need the actual CD, I think HP sells them in the HP parts store.

Just click on the link to open the download page and in the download webpage click on the download only button and select save to save the software to the desktop and once the download is compleated double click on the file to start the installation and follow the on screen instructions. Make sure that the usb cable is not connected until you receive a prompt to connect while installing.
