Question about HP Xb3000 Notebook Expansion Base And 400gb Kit 400 GB Hard Drive

It won't recognize the keyboard

My xb3000, besides having the intermittent power problem others have posted, also will not recognize the wireless keyboard that came with it. The receiver that plugs into the usb seems to be working, because it connects to the HP wireless mouse that also came with this unit. I followed the connection instructions, tried different batteries in the keyboard, but nothing! I bought it over Ebay so its not easy to just return. The keyboard model number is Y-RAS79. Any ideas folks?

I know power is going to the receiver because the "num lk" light comes on on the receiver itself, but the mouse and keyboard suddenly don't work any longer. I can't figure it out with troubleshooting or anything.

Wireless receiver comes on but no light illuminates for keyboard or optical mouse and as such, they are inoperable.

I tried forever to connect the keyboard & mouse, then realized that I didn't have to hold the connect buttons on the receiver & keyboard for so just wouldn't connect...until I figured out that you should only press the buttons for a second then immediately let go...both keyboard & mouse (while both cheap looking) have been working great since! Love the hot-buttons/keys!

Solution #3 posted by ed22614 worked for me as well. Just press the connect button briefly.

Fashioned a piece of tin foil to fit into battery slot to fit in between the positive on the battery and the positive reciever on the keyboard

Same problem for me. Mouse recognized easily, but keyboard would take many tries. Finally, I used a screwdriver to pull out the contact (little spring) for the + end of the battery a little further, and the keyboard recognized first try. I guess through time the spring gets pushed in a little too far and won't complete the circuit, since the slot for the + terminal is slightly smaller than the tip of the battery. When I change the batteries, I just give the spring a little tug to make sure the connection will be there.

O/s will not recognise keyboard/mouse

maybe it did not recognize it because the system has not yet installed the drivers or maybe the keyboard and mouse is faulty.

Get an external keyboard, as this will help to know where the problem is coming from.

I wish you all the best.

I've had my HP pavilion connected to an HPxb3000for 16 mos with no problems. Today out of the blue a very loud ta ta ta sound emitted regardless if vol. control on or off. Then the screen began displaying...

Try looking on the keyboard to see if a key is stuck. I am presuming that you have a wireless keyboard. Also unplug the module that is plugged into the xb3000 - see if the running u stops in firefox.

HP Expansion Base - Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Set-Up

Any Radio Shack or Best Buy for sure and even Staples and the like will have wireless devices that should help you figure out how to hook up what you have. For that matter a new set might be so inexpensive as to save you the hassle.

Good luck,

XB3000 Intermittent power

wow like XB3000 day, find it in garage sale for $3?
DV9000 is a match !
This is dead product, now in the LEGACY status....(means dead)
NO OS stated, XP??? why post leaving out the most key part.?
this device has zero support at HP now. zip
and is a 2005 produced (first one) and is XP only, (will 2005 is that)
the drivers are not available now. anywhere,
so... only google might find them, I see zero

HP does not support old legacy devices, who does?
no law requires over 10 year support.
so if all XP drivers for the XB3000 are present
and all batteries are good.
power packs all good.
and no XP viruses present (never seen 1 XP clean in my life)
then it can work
did you read the manual first

try to know that parts this old can not even be sourced now.
did youo ever work in production factory like me.?>(sr. tech)
ever see things go obsolete like the drop of hat??
need list of all chips not gone. from earth , have it. its near endless.
no company in the world , can just wave a wand and have parts
not made now , magically , show up.

how ever if rich and want to fix a device that has street value of about $3 it can be fixed,, $300 labor.?
with hard work, finding legacy parts, only ebay has them.
parts not made now. or google for them. 1 by 1.
we do this all the time but not on $3 devices
(high end projection systems?)
now learn this, first find what is really broken and then lay blame
not throw mud lacking facts. and win.

the batteries are not in warranty and not one other part either.
this is what LEGACY is all about.

No lie i could fix it but you cant afford me or my tools.
sorry for the hard truth.

one other problem is the HP has no books with schematics
a tech needs those. to do the diagnosis.
its really just a toy, a throw away device.
if you went to ebay they can be had for $5 working, near free
less than a pack of CIGS.
why fix a $3 box when a $5 box works> ????
