ERROR 8002F1F9 DURING AN UPDATE THROUGHT PS3 **** (NOT INTERNET) EVERY TIME I OPEN THE CONCOLE IT TRYIES TO UPDATE AND STOPS AT 55%

From my knowledge on ERROR 8002F1F9, you need to try the system recovery menu and if that doesn't work you need to contact Playstation customer support: 800-345-7669.

SAFE MODE:

1. Place you finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then take you finger off the sensor.

2. Place your finger back on the on/off sensor leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.

3. Once the safe mode screen comes on select the option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.

NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all data except the OS. I recommend backing up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.

Playstation 3 (PS3) Console: trying to update software and keep getting the 800...

You will need an extra 2.5" HDD. use a laptop HDD.
So we all know with this error, it won't allow you to enter in the recovery menu because it would try to re-install the bad 2.8 update firmware again and again once it turned on.
1. So what I did was I swapped the laptop HDD into the PS3, it won't be able to read the HDD but it will allow you to enter the recovery menu now.
(for those who do not know how to get into the recovery menu, here is the instruction http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?message
.uid=39144801
)
2. Once I'm in the recovery menu, I took out the laptop HDD and put back in the PS3 HDD.
3. I also downloaded the 3.01 firmware from the PS website and uploaded into my USB drive and put that in the PS3 slot.
4. At this point, you want to select "system update" and update to the 3.01 version.

For some reason, the first time doing this the system froze at 67% with a new error (but i didn't write down the code). So I had repeat step 1 and 2, but this time when I put back in the PS3 HDD I chose "restore file system" without having to do the system update again. Then it gave me another error at around 65% that said the disk is corrupted and tell me to press OK to format the disk. After it formatted, it automatically install the 3.01 version and the system is fixed.

System recovery not working

If you have windows xp, here is what you can do>>
This is called a "system recovery" (destructive)
I do not have the disk either. My windows XP, was already loaded on my computer, when I bought it. These instructions, will clean everything off of your hard drive, so you must back up anything that you want to save. I have done this three times, and I got these instructions, from a computer tech. When starting your computer, tap the F-10 key. click on next-yes-and follow the instructions, that come up on your screen. When you are finished, your computer, will look just like it did, when you first bought it. Do these steps, in order, when finished.
1. set up windows firewall
2. windows update (click express)
3. install your anti-virus program (update)
4. install anti-spyware (update)
5. Install service pack 2...Good Luck..
All your drivers etc. will reload on your computer, without a disk. All this information is stored on a hidden partition .. Good Luck
