Laptop not showing light, power button not turning on, AC adaptor light constantly beeping faintly
I bought this laptop three months ago. Power button is now not turning on, laptop can't switch on, AC adaptor light is beepping faintly. The problem just started now. I have a report I have to complete tonight for submission to a standing committe tommorow morning. What should I do, please help!!!
Re: Laptop not showing light, power button not turning...
Unplug the power cable... Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds... Plug cable back in and check for light... If this still didnt work, then unplug cable again, take battery out, wait 10 seconds.... Put battery back in, plug cable back in and this should allow you to boot...

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?
When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.
Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.
Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.
Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.
Check the power adaptor led is not flashing. Flashing Adaptor LED indicates fault with laptop charging circuit / powerboard
If it will not boot on battery, and you know the adaptor to be good, the issue lies with the motherboard. Sometimes, removing the battery, and unplugging, pressing the power button and holding it for 30 secs, replacing the adaptor only will allow it to boot up, but this will only work if the motherboard is not damaged r the CPU fan has not failed.
1. remove all ext peripherals 2. remove battery 3. check first the ac adapter if it has led on (make sure ac adapter is not connected to the laptop) 4. try any other wall socket check if ac adapter will led stay on 5. if ac adapter stayed on then connect to laptop (without the batter) 6. after connecting the ac adapter to laptop check if the ac adapter led turned off, if yes then check ac adapter laptop pin on the side if is loose or damage. 7. if ac adapter stayed on after connecting to laptop press now the power button on the laptop just once. check if the power led on laptop will turn on (check if power led stays on or it blinks amber) 8. if it blinks amber then remove all CRUs such as dvd drive, memory, hard drive and wireless cards. put them back one at a time. make sure you turn off laptop when putting removed hardware. this will check and isolate which causing the power led to blink. 9. if the power led stays on then turn it off again then wait a couple of seconds then press and hold on Fn key then press power button. wait for about 5 minutes while the power led is steady on, until you hear beeps once you hear beeps it means that LCD has problems. try then connecting laptop to an external monitor if it shows display there. press on Fn + F8 to toggle the display from LCD laptop to the ext monitor. if no display replace the motherboard. if it has display replace LCD.
Disconnect the AC adaptor from the laptop and remove the Battery pack from the Battery bay. Then, remove the RAM module and reinstall it after cleaning the RAM slot. Next, connect the AC adaptor to the laptop then try turning it ON. Please make sure that the AC adaptor is connected to a functional wall outlet. If the laptop still doesn't turn ON then you may try cleaning the Battery bay and the metal contacts in the battery compartment then insert the battery and try turning ON the laptop. If the laptop still doesn't turn ON then the issue is with the power supply unit.
You should be able to buy an after market power adapter for your laptop and it would be cheaper.
Make sure it matches the same voltage and amps as the Sony.
Check the Internet, do a Google search for Sony power adaptors.
Before you buy a new power adaptor, check the with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the lable on the bottom of the power adaptor.
If you get a very low or zero reading then the adapter is faulty.
If the adaptor is OK then the problem is a faulty power connector on the laptop and a computer repair shop can repair it.
Hook up your power adaptor to ac power without it being hooked up to the laptop and see if the green light stays on. If it does then you know your adaptor is okay. if your adaptor is only hooked up to ac power and the green light still turns off then you know your ac adaptor is bad.
Take out the battery from your laptop. Now hook up the ac adaptor to the laptop and if it stays green then you know your battery is bad but you also want to make sure you can get your laptop to turn on. Hopefully it will turn on with only the ac adaptor hooked up to it.
very first thing u have do is if u have any other laptop try and connect the aac adaptor with that laptop and also try the battery if it is working with the other laptop that means the motherboard of the computer has gone bad u need to replace it and what also u can try is disconnect the ac adaptor and take out the battery from the laptop and the without ac adaptor and the battery press and hold down the power button for one minute and then connect the ac adaptor and put the battery back in and then try and turn on the computer and also what u can do is shut down the computer first and then just hit the power butoon once only to turn it on and then keep tapping f8 key on the keyboard and it will take u to windows advance options and select safe mode with networking and then try if it turns on to the windows screen or not......and if it doesnt turn ono then definately replace the motherboard...good luck....
Although symptom is showing that AC Adaptor is not working as its not providing power to the unit. I will suggest you to perform some basic troubleshooting steps. Check if outlet is working if not check with known working outlet. If you have a multimeter you can the output of the AC adaptor.
Also you can perform full power cycle and component discharge. Take the battery out and disconnect the AC adaptor press the power button and hold about 7 seconds. After that put the AC adaptor in and test again.
If issue persist take to nearest Service center check with known working AC adaptor. After that I believe you will figure out the best solution.
