There are two bolts just in front of the motor that holds the rail. Remove these and you can move the motor back enough to slide the coupler off.

I have an older craftsman garage door opener that I just replaced the drive gear on. Everything seems to be working properly except that it will not go down unless you hold the button down until it closes...

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

My interrupter cup keeps flying off on my craftsman garage door opner model 139.53648srt1

This sometimes happens after changing a drive gear. If this is the case follow the instructions below.

You probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

If you didn't just change the drive gear you will find the motor shaft is moving towards the rear and knocking the interrupter cup off. Replacing the drive gear with the new coupler and washers will cure this problem.

Replaced the gears in opener. Reinstalled with black end cup and rpm limiter. Motor runs but only cycles six inches back and forth.

The light on my Chamberlain garage door opener does not work. I replaced the fixture that the bulb screws into but it still does not work.

Try unplugging the opener, removing the bulb and pulling out on the center contact in the socket with a small screwdriver.

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses it is the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each one is lit and not flickering ever so slightly. Tweak them a bit.
