Question about Sony NW-S705FP (2 GB) MP3 Player

1 Answer

Headphone jack Dear Fixya, As you can see I own a sony nw s705. Basically, I think the headphone jack is messed up - When I put my earphones in, there is no audio unless i fidget the thing around until a get a good contact. I do not know how it occured, maybe something loosened while it was in my pocket. I know its not the earphones because I have tried other earphones and observed the same problem. Obviously you can't really give me technical advice on how to fix it (maybe you can!) - I just wanted to know whether you think 1) is it worth getting repaired 2) do you think repair shops normally fix sony products

Either the left headphone is shot or the headphone jack is messed up. Try a different set of head phones if its same result see about replacing the jack.

Have sony nw-a3000 20GB walkman with sound in right channel only can you help

do you wrap your headphones around the mp3 player?? If you do, you may have damaged the headphone socket. I did it to my Ipod and had to get a new one. The oher problem might be that you've damaged the earphone cable, try putting them into another device e.g. your computer. If they work fine, its your headphone socket. If they dont work, you'll need new headphones

Ipod left earphone

Have you checked the headphones with another player to ensure that it is the headphones and not the iPod's headphone jack? If not I would greatly recommend doing so. If it is headphone jack on the iPod, this can be replaced rather simply. You can go to:
http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/1626-headphone-jack-ipod-video.html

to view the price of the part and decide if it is worth repairing to you.
On the same site you can view a free guide on how to remove the damaged part(s) but also I posted a direct URL below. Simply copy and paste into your web browser's address bar.

2 sets of headphones will play only on left earphone.

Dirt inside of the headphone jack can be the culprit. If you have canned air, you can blow it out, or twist the headphone connector inside the jack to clean the contacts.

Loose earphone Jack on sony NW s705f

Hiya,

If you remove the "hold" switch from the back of the unit, you'll discover a screw. Remove the screw and gently life the metal off cover off, it's might appear stuck but this is ok, it's held in place with a bit of double sided tape. Once inside there are two more screws... and to remove the PCB, there's another few screws.. Have fun!

However, I'm thinking when you say loose, are you referring to the physical socket? Because inside the player the socket isn't mounted directly to the PCB, instead it's mounted to a super thin plastic with copper-like contacts which in attaches to the main-board. The actual socket is designed to be slightly loose turns this puts less stress on the PCB and it's held in place buy the track controller/collar...

My advice, if it works don't dismantle it..

IPod- right earphone doesn't work

Yes, the headphone jack will need to be resoldered back in place. You can get it fixed at a computer repair shop or electronics shop. It shouldn't cost that much to get it repaired. Good luck to you:)
