I have a Kenmore automatic heay duty top load washer that when is in the wash cycle I believe what is the agitator only sort of jerks back and forth slowly instead of turning. It is a 90series and the model# is 110.23902200

I got your advice on the agitator and I was able to pull it off but there was nothing stuck under it do you think it might be the transmission? It still turns during the wash cycle but its sort of a slow stop and go turn. Its a 2002Kenmore 90series, heavy duty, super capacity plus, 3speed motor w/5 speed combinations, model no. 110.23902200

See if you can lift agitator off and see if something is jammed under it ....like a sock or something..most unscrew at top and just lift off if this is not your problem it may be the transmission. how old is the washer if old probably cheaper to replace then to have transmission repaired(if it is transmission)

I am not sure but,I would suggest you call a good appliance repair and parts shop and tell them. They should be able to tell you if it is your transmission.I would get a price on doing it and balance it against replacing it with a good used washing machineIt may be cheaper in the long run, then spending on a transmission

I have kenmore 80 series heavy duty/ super capacity plus washer that after it fills with water, hot or cold and it starts the wash cycle, I noticed that the agitator only moves once in awhile and stops

hum either a bad timer sticking the point contacts close. have u tried this in all cycles? and possibly a motor with bad windings not enough power to run agitation? try running in mild or gentle and see what happens? I was tempted to say the cam dogs in agitator but they dont work then stop then work, when they go out they go out.

70 Series Kenmore Washer Agitates in Heavy Duty regardless of switch selection

Yours is a 2 speed motor. Does it spin in 2 different speeds. If so, then it most likely is designed with only to agitate in 1 speed. If it only spins in one speed, then your motor is defective

You have a 2 part agitator.
The bottom portion moves back and forth. The upper corkscrew moves clockwise only, pulling the laundry down and around the tub.

Washer is not rotating fully during wash cycle

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Some Kenmore washers have a two piece agitator. The lower section will rotate back and forth both ways.

The top section has "agitate Dogs" that allow it to rotate only one way (to keep the clothes moving downward.

If yours has a two piece agitator there shouldn't be a problem.

Agitator moving just a little.

If it is a Whirlpool or Kenmore make washer you probably stripped the "dog ears" in the agitator. They give you the duel agitation that makes your clothes cycle from top to bottom of the machine. Should only rin you around $8.00 or so. Hope that helps.
