Question about Kitchen Ranges

Gas range top burners too hot

New Maytag gas range, running propane, pro-installed and conversion. Top burners set to lowest setting, but still cannot get burners low enough to simmer. Any way to further adjust burners for a lower "low" setting?

I have a Whirlpool gas cooktop, running on LP with a converter, installed by professional, but even on the lowest settings, the burners are too hot, can't get good low heat or simmer.

Have a Magic Chef natural gas range, sealed burners and control knobs. On two of the burners the flames are so high they are now over 1 1/2" high and creating black soot on the range and my pots. It's 8 years old and this just started recently. I thought maybe cleaning products caused this, but I thoroughly cleaned all the holes with clear water and toothpicks, but it didn't help. I can't figure out how to adjust the flame. Any ideas on what I can do?? p.s. I can't find the manual and having lots of trouble trying to track one down. My model # is: CGB3742BDW just in case anyone out there might know where I can find one. Thanks, Maggie :-)

Get the installation manual for your range, and find the part on adjusting the low heat for the burners. On my Whirlpool, I found there is an adjustment screw inside the control knob shaft of each burner. The manual says turn the burner on low, remove the knob, then turn this screw until the flames are 1/4" high. Super-easy, it took me 5 minutes to do. I am sure all ranges have similar adjustments, might be in different locations - check the manual.

I have a Belling Richmond dual fuel cooker (electric & LPG) and can't simmer anything on the burners because the flame is too high even at the lowest setting

Most gas ranges and cooktops are set for natural gas at the factory. If the flames are too high this could be an indication the range or cooktop was improperly converted from a natural gas setting to LP, (Liquid Propane) gas setting. Contact your installer or local Gas Company to correctly convert the range or cooktop.

I got a GE gas range (model JGBS22) from a co-worker. She had converted it from gas to propane. I just had a plumber hook it up to natural gas but, even with the conversion manual, he couldn't change the...

There should be a set of orifices for each burner as well as the oven and broiler. When the unit was converted to propane, these orifices should have been replaced and the ones for gas put in with the conversion kit installation information. The kit should have been reattached near the pressure regulator.

If the kit was missing the orifices, then, yes, you are missing pieces. Check with your coworker if the conversion kit was missing. If you have the kit, it can be easily done by any appliance installer (or repair person) licensed for handling NG. (At least on our range, the conversion kit installation was straight forward. Every orifice was clearly labeled with the labels different for each burner and for the gas/LP kits (ABCD (NG) vs MNOP (LP)) .) The regulator is the only part that switched for LP or NG without the kit.

As I recall, the only tools we needed for the top burners were a small wrench (10 mm) and a small flat blade screwdriver. Remove one orifice and put in the appropriate replacement. Then adjust the burners so that they didn't blow out when the oven was opened or quickly turned from high to low (for the simmer burner). The oven and broiler took a bit longer. Several screws had to be removed to get at the orifices. Then the air flow had to be adjusted for the incoming gas.

I hope this helps.

My new gas stove (propane) is releasing black soothe when lit. All the pots are covered in this black powdery like substance. Whats the problem and how can i fix it. It's really costing me a lot to clean .

All gas stoves are set up for natural gas. Before using on propane, the oven and burners need to be converted for propane operation. Refer to the installation manual for conversion requirements for your particular stove.

New gas range converted to propane

I think it sounds like one of two problems either the wrong orifaces were installed in the gas valves for the conversion or the pressure on the output side of the gas valve was not set correctly.

Viking pro gas range propane conversion

Sounds like your range is set up for the wrong kind of gas, or, in the case of LP, your installer failed to make the necessary adjustments once it was hooked up. First step is to insure that you have the proper range for type of gas you are using. If not, the orifices for all surface and oven burners will have to be changed out. That should be done by a qualified service technician.

Changed from natural gas to propane when new oven flames up the side top burners ok

Just bought a Kenmore and did this conversion myself. You do not change the oven nozzle (jets) but have to wrench it down with a 1/2" wrench as per instructions. After I did this the falme was high as you described. I wrenched it down further and adjusted the air shuttle and it was fine. The brioler is done the same. The wrench adjustment is tight so be aware.
