Question about RCA RP5010 Digital Voice Recorder

Folder all appear empty but remaining time indicates files

All of the folders indicate 0/0 but the remaining time indicates that files exist. The remaining time counter reads the same as what it did before the folder indicators went to 0/0. I had 2 files in one folder that took up about 2 hours 18 minutes. The remaining time indicator shows 36 minutes 27 seconds left. Is there any way to recover these files?

Not really sure about the circumstances. It was playing back and I picked it up - i must have pushed the "record" button and it went to insert. I pushed stop and it said "wait" then went off. When I turned it back on the folders were empty. The baffling part is that the files must be there in memory somewhere for it to show such a low amount of time left to record. Yes, it is in standard play so there should be somewhere around 3 hours of record time left with all the folders empty.

I don't think the RP5010 had any kind of port to connect to a computer.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I too suspect that my recording is lost. The unfortunate side effect to that is that the memory capacity of the voice recorder has been severely curtailed. Instead of 3 hours of memory I now have 36 minutes. Not a major problem but it is an inconvenience. Thanks again.

Am not an expert in the device you have but suggest you A) query the company...they have a website but support for this but I gave up after waiting for the support site .... http://support.rca.com/index.html... to load for two hours B) If the folder is empty you are more than likely out of luck. These devices are not full blown computers. Another long shot is to contact a service center....you just might get lucky and find someone who can give you advice over the phone. (I assume you have googled the internet to death).

Also you didn't mention any circumstance that caused them to disappear. If I guess and assume the voice recorder is using solid state memory you could have a memory problem or have inadvertently erased memory. Static electricity can do this. Hope this at least points you in the right direction. Tango.

Finally go thru to the RCA site....could find nothing under support but below is the manual link for your device. It's a PDF file.

The only thing I can think of is to try recording a bit more...then playback...but I think your recording is gone. The manual I referenced might give you a hint as well....slim chance but give it a go.

Try power cycling the unit. Turn it off and remove it's batteries for a few hours then insert and turn on again.

I believe best solution is connecting the computer and retrieve the files completely. So you can search the files when its on your HDD. Files might be located at the main directory. that will be concluded after transfer done. please post if you need further assistance.

Good Luck

I have a brand new THOMSON XC0380 Voice recorder. I cannot locate any file containing the "setup" process as described in the instructions. Folder A has a .VOC file that opened contains nothing...

The Thomson voice recorders appear to be the same as those of an RCA series. There is a software download for a 512MB RCA VR5220 recorder that might work on your 64MB one at http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/audio/voicerecorders/?sku=VR5220, or you might find something useful elsewhere on the rca site.

Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder...memory full problem

I solved the problem by connecting my Sony IC Recorder to the USB port on my McBook Pro computer and then emptying the trash can on the Mac computer. Visually (flashing red indicator light) and audibly (the recorder's sound that indicates something being erased), it was clear that mp3 files were finally, really being erased on the Sony recorder even though the recorder's own screen display had previously shown only empty folders and no files. Dragging files to the trash can doesn't really erase them unless you also empty the trash. All dragging to the trash can does is somehow mark the files in a way that, unfortunately, makes them invisible to Sony's file detection system.

Olympus VN-480 digtial recorder - can't get my files to play back

if the power is interupted or improperly unplugged from the computer, the files may be corrupted... try to play the files and while playing move them to another folder... this may get your files back... else you will need to clear the recorder by pressing stop and erase at the same time for about 3 seconds.

Unable to transfer recording from File B

All files should be set for transfer when using the Olympus software.  There is a way you can check folder B in my computer by locating the program folder where the olympus software resides.  If folder B is empty, the recording could have landed in A, C, or D folder.
