Question about HP Pavilion dv8000t Notebook

Analog Sound no SPDIF

I have a HP DV800T notebook and recently purchased the Toslink adapter for the SPDIF but am getting no light. The Vista Driver does not even give me the option for SPDIF either. When I had windows XP on the system it gave me the option but didn't have the opportunity to test it. When I contacted HP the gave me the link to the driver but still no dice. Any suggestions?

This may help. The SPDIF not working is differant for each Pc.
This package contains the driver for the Conexant Audio in the supported notebook models and operating systems. Which I picked Vista for you & your model: Pavilion dv8000t CTO.
Release Date: 2007-05-20 Version: A. Don't feel bad you would be surprised how many pc motherboards & notebooks have this problem. Vista by far is the worst.
There is also a Security Update for HP Software. I'll list the link here as well. (do not know if you did this yet).
The link below is drivers & others for your notebook.
Post back if this did not help & I'll continue to find a better fix!
Understanding a little about S/PDIF & Vista.
Vista does indeed prevent Protected or "Premium" Content (mp3, wma, etc) from being channeled in any manner which would allow the user to create an "un-protected" copy. That is the purpose of the new O/S, to protect DRM at any cost...including customer utility. S/PDIF is considered "unsafe" and is therefore crippled to a great extent in Vista. Additionally, all hardware manufacturers are required to provide ONLY drivers that will inhibit functions such as S/PDIF in the Vista environment. Should Vista find an "unsafe" driver during the mandatory "update" process, the machine will call home and the driver will be disabled.

AUDIO SPDIF signal from HDMI

SPDIF, is just a fancy title for Digital Audio, which is linked from unit to unit in two ways only. They use either a Toslink cable(fiber optics) or a coaxial, with RCA ends. If your unit has either, it is a straight connection. Should you not have either of those, you can get a digital to analog convertor. That would be my first choice, but it may be the only one you have available. Good luck.

Does the LCDVD326A have the ability to attach headphones? If so, where are the connections?

First of all, here's the manual:

Refer to page 11. Apparently this set only has audio input connections (as analog audio) It does have an audio output but it is digital audio. you can't just plug in speakers or headphones, you need an adapter to convert digital to analog.
If you're a techie and want to know about SPDIF, look here:

You will need the converter:

and a cable to connect the adapter to the TV (choose the length you want)

AmazonBasics Digital Optical Audio Toslink Cable 6 Feet 1 8 Meters

they don't make it easy, do they?
Good luck

Lg e500 no spdif output

If you open your sound card properties, you have to tell the hardware (soundcard) to use the SPDIF. For some models of Realtek sound cards, it requires and adapter that you plug into the port and offers optical or coaxial. I could not find anything stating that your PC requires it but I dont have the serial number of your PC to find if you have a different version of the soundcard used in your model notebook.

Also, make sure you are using the proper SPDIF cable to your reciever. This is a digital connection so it requires a 3.5mm to standard male coaxial (RCA) cable. If you are using one, then you just need to make sure that your soundcard knows to ouput audio through the SPDIF port.

Hope that offers some help. If you need further assistance, let me know!

HDMI Audio does not appear to be installed. HP PAvillion DV 9260

i messed with this for days, trying to install older versions of nvidia and installing drivers but nothing seemed to work. so i finally read the manuel to my hp dv9500. they address this in like the third page. it says in order to have sound through hdmi u must change your speadek settings to digital.
go into control panal, click on hardware and sound, select sound, and under the playback tab select the digital output and set it as default. you wont get any sound out of the computer speakers but presto!!!! it plays sound out of my tv with the hdmi cable its great!!!!

The red light is because its a digital/ analog output. Its known as s/pdif..Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format- also known as TOSLINK or lightpipe.

it sounds like you may need to reset the nvram / pram on your computer. If this doesnt not work, then you may need to reinstall the os. it's known as an archive and install. Have you recently done any upgrades or installs? Do you write music and may be using an external sound card? you may want to go to system preferences, choose sound, and make sure the onboard ins and outs are being utilized. but the fact that youre not getting the proper on screen icon representing the sound level would indicate and issue with the hardware engaging with the software.

Before you attempt the archive and install, I would make sure you have the most recent version of your OS....

Keep me posted...
