Question about HP Pavilion dv8000t Notebook

Analog Sound no SPDIF

I have a HP DV800T notebook and recently purchased the Toslink adapter for the SPDIF but am getting no light. The Vista Driver does not even give me the option for SPDIF either. When I had windows XP on the system it gave me the option but didn't have the opportunity to test it. When I contacted HP the gave me the link to the driver but still no dice. Any suggestions?

This package contains the driver for the Conexant Audio in the supported notebook models and operating systems. Which I picked Vista for you & your model: Pavilion dv8000t CTO.
Release Date: 2007-05-20 Version: 3.40.0.50 A. Don't feel bad you would be surprised how many pc motherboards & notebooks have this problem. Vista by far is the worst.
There is also a Security Update for HP Software. I'll list the link here as well. (do not know if you did this yet).

Post back if this did not help & I'll continue to find a better fix!
Understanding a little about S/PDIF & Vista.
Vista does indeed prevent Protected or "Premium" Content (mp3, wma, etc) from being channeled in any manner which would allow the user to create an "un-protected" copy. That is the purpose of the new O/S, to protect DRM at any cost...including customer utility. S/PDIF is considered "unsafe" and is therefore crippled to a great extent in Vista. Additionally, all hardware manufacturers are required to provide ONLY drivers that will inhibit functions such as S/PDIF in the Vista environment. Should Vista find an "unsafe" driver during the mandatory "update" process, the machine will call home and the driver will be disabled.

My HP pavillion dv6700 laptops sound doesn't work .... the icon has a re x at the bottom and it says no audio device has been installed; it is only 2yrs. old; can this be resolved or would it be best to...

I believe it can be resolved without purchasing a new laptop.

Windows is a 'funny animal'. Sometimes Windows just looses it. You need to reinstall your audio device Drivers again.

It's Integrated Audio used on the HP Pavilion DV6700T laptop. An audio chip soldered to the motherboard.
Another term used for Integrated Audio is OnBoard Audio.
On the motherBoard.

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

(If it wasn't Integrated Audio, it would be a separate audio adapter card. {Sound Card} The audio chip is soldered to an adapter card. The adapter card is removable. This would allow replacing the audio adapter card. Not happening for an HP Pavilion dv6700t laptop)

Drivers are small software programs that allow the Operating System to communicate with the device.
(Windows XP and Windows Vista are two examples of an Operating System. O/S)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_driver

There is an HP Pavilion DV6700T Entertainment Notebook PC series, and an HP Pavilion DV6700T SPECIAL EDITION Entertainment Notebook PC series of laptops.

I need to know what Operating System you are using. Do I assume Windows Vista? (Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit)

Going with Windows Vista, here is the Audio Driver download page for the Pavilion DV6700T notebook, (Laptop),

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3650962

Doesn't matter what version of Vista it is, this audio file is for all versions of Vista.

On the above page left-click on the + sign to the left of -
Driver- Audio (1)

Now go to the right, and left-click on Download, in the rectangular box.

A small box will come up, Opening sp38899.exe
The name of this file is sp38899.exe

Left-click on Save File.

The file will be saved to, where ever your downloads are set to save to. The file needs to be found, then opened in order to work.

When you see the audio file (sp38899.exe) Double-click on it.
The Windows Installation wizard will lead you through installing.

If you are asked to restart your computer, do so.
If not, restart your computer.

Need to get my hdmi output to work

If you have windows vista then connect the HDMI device to the notebook with the cable.
The click on start then type sound and select sound from the list.
In that please click right click SPDIF or something like that and click on set default.
The sound should work.
Start the audio file again.

Lg e500 no spdif output

If you open your sound card properties, you have to tell the hardware (soundcard) to use the SPDIF. For some models of Realtek sound cards, it requires and adapter that you plug into the port and offers optical or coaxial. I could not find anything stating that your PC requires it but I dont have the serial number of your PC to find if you have a different version of the soundcard used in your model notebook.

Also, make sure you are using the proper SPDIF cable to your reciever. This is a digital connection so it requires a 3.5mm to standard male coaxial (RCA) cable. If you are using one, then you just need to make sure that your soundcard knows to ouput audio through the SPDIF port.

Hope that offers some help. If you need further assistance, let me know!

No audio device installed.

It's unlikly that HP will relesae he needed Vista drivers for your sound device.
That has been a problem with Vista since day 1.
If you want your sound back, you should go back to XP.
Windows Vista use a new software architecture, and hardware devices must comply with it, in order to be used by the new OS.
Sorry

HDMI Audio does not appear to be installed. HP PAvillion DV 9260

i messed with this for days, trying to install older versions of nvidia and installing drivers but nothing seemed to work. so i finally read the manuel to my hp dv9500. they address this in like the third page. it says in order to have sound through hdmi u must change your speadek settings to digital.
go into control panal, click on hardware and sound, select sound, and under the playback tab select the digital output and set it as default. you wont get any sound out of the computer speakers but presto!!!! it plays sound out of my tv with the hdmi cable its great!!!!

Acer aspire 5910G S/PDIF cable

Hi,

These are Creative Z5500 speakers and you have an audio control panel that allows digital in or analog in, correct?

Digital out is usually marked by a black color ring not green and would have a stamp on it indicating digital or spdif. Digital out and coaxial out are the same thing and are a simple mono male to male mini 1/8 twisted copper cable.

You can use the digital in at the desktop control unit with a mono mini 1/8 male and male cable available at any Radio Shack and also get a mono RCA (any color) male to male adapter. Just explain your needs to the clerk there and they'll set you up.

An optical connection is completely different and makes no difference. The jack is square and usually has a plug in it to keep dust out with a square knob for grabbing it to withdraw the dust plug and put it back in place again. It's best not to bother with these things as they haven't found a place in the market.

Just so you know, you can use the analog out on your laptop to the analog in on the control unit and then select Dolby digital for processing and you won't know the difference. This whole digital thing is blown way out of proportion unless you're working with HD out to HD in on a flat panel TV unit from a Satellite Receiver or Cable Box.

Any other questions just ask away and please don't forget to rate our solutions on FixYa. Thanks.

No sound if audio is set to realtek digital output

THe realtek Digital Output will only output sound if you have an optical cable attached. this allows you to connect your laptop a audio receiver via an optical cable. this is why you get no sound when it is set to digital output.
