Replacing the cart holder on a Brother MFC 240C
Somethings that have worked for some Brother owners to get cartridges recognised.
1. With your MFC powered up, open it up and remove the cartridge you are
having a problem with, then close the MFC, leaving it powered up. It
should report that there is no cartridge in the machine.
Still
with the MFC powered up, open it up and reinsert the ink cartridge,
then close the MFC. It should either ask if you have replaced a
cartridge or go into its cleaning mode.
Answer "yes" to "have you replaced cartridge?" and it should either "print" or "clean" and then "print".
2. The cartridge holder in the printer has an "electronic eye" (light sensor) of some type for each cartridge.
Some users have found that putting either permanent marker/sharpie/black PVC tape either on the area of the ink cartridge that goes near the sensor or alternatively putting tape over the sensor itself allows printing to occur.
The problem with this method is that the printer will no longer recognise near-empty cartridges and so will not warn you to replace them and so the print head may be damaged. This is said to work on LC57 icartridges used with the following models: DCP-330C, DCP-350C,
DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, FAX-2480C, MFC-240C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN,
MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW, MFC-885CW, MFC-3360C, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN.
