Was given a pc clone to fix up and pass on to someone without one. It has newly installed Xp pro on it. Everything works except the A drive. When machine is turned on the light on the a drive turns on and stays on. The cd drive and another burner flash as well but lights go out as usual. I thought A drive was faulty so i switched it with another one. Same problem, light stays on. The machine works perfectly otherwise. I have run all the updates from microsoft successfully. Machine is about 7 years old.

You have to download clone cd software, to run gta iv, after installation u have to make a iso image of the game, and then open clone cd software, and make clone of the iso image , and when cloning successfully restart computer , open my computer u will get, a new drive that clone cd, and alos the icon of clone right click on the drive and mount from browse, and find the clone image where u have to save before clonning the iso image and mount it, then u can run and play the game,
You need to install an operating system like windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Linux OS. Your hard drive is blank now and needs programming. If you have a friend that can clone your old drive then they will be able to copy everything from your old drive as it was to your new one. Might need to contact a local computer technician to re-install windows for you if not sure. Also you need to consider the price of windows XP, Vista or 7 if you don't have a copy!! Good luck!!
Yes Ghost will work fine, I use it all the time. You can do it with a cable also, or make sure bothe machines have the same version of ghost and you can do it wirelesslly, "old machine"-"new machine", go watch tv and come back it will have copied whatever you asken, you can also use a drive or flash drive
If your using the Dell recovery disk that came with the computer, chance are it wont install unless your using an identical hard drive as the original that was installed in it. You may need a new full OS disk. If you still have the original drive, may be able to ghost or clone the old drive and get it to work. There are quite a few programs for copying (ghosting, cloning) a complete hard drive image onto a new drive.
Haven't read anything about setting up either of them as slave and the other as master... if you don't do that... you get this sort of "HUH, what's going on." Not quite that simple, but not that hard either if you're IQ is probably at least 80, you should be able to do it... heck, half the drives have the jumper settings printed on them.
Your old hard drive contained files used by the OS, as well as the OS itself. If you replaced that HD with another, and did not clone your existing install onto the new HD, then there is no boot record, nor is there anything to boot. It is not possible to just swap a HD and expect it to work without either cloning the old drive or performing a fresh install of an OS. The fact that it is detected by the BIOS is good, as you can install a new OS onto the new drive, or use a program like Ghost to clone your old drive's contents onto the new drive.
