Laptop won't run on battery power

I posted this earlier, but I can't type and misspelled the subject, ha ha.

I have an nx7010. When plugged into the AC, the charging icon only ever says something very low, between 2-12%. As soon as I unplug the AC, it turns off. I tried another battery...it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

Try calibrating the battery in the system BIOS. Worked for me.

If possible try another power cord for the battery. If this does not help than please update your notebook. Click this link. Pick your operating system.

Look for HP Systems Software Manager & install. Than run. This is a utility that automatically detects and updates BIOS, device drivers, and management agent versions on your notebook PCs. Streamline mass deployment of HP System Software updates. Your charger could be defective & liminting the total charge. The updates may fix this. Post back if nothing above helped!

I believe Battery is completed at least 500 cycles. It shows that your AC adaptor works fine but battery is not holding charge. The battery usually works maximum 500 cycles with full performance after 500 cycles performance goes down until it dies totally. Unfortunately there is no immortal battery yet. May I know how long you are using the computer? You may update your BIOS as it improves the Battery power control. However new battery seems best solution.

Good Luck

Have you tried a KNOWN good battery? If your laptop does this with a battery that's known to be good, then the charging circuity is at fault. Also, try this: while the AC and battery is plugged in, unplug the battery. If nothing changes, then the laptop is the problem, if the status changes, then the problem MIGHT be the battery(ies).

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice.
Thank you, and good luck!!

ASUS netbook 1005 HA charger won't stay in to keep charging battery

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Laptop HP COMPAQ NX7010. Dead, with lights on..

Sometimes removing the cmos battery for 5 minutes isnt enough, with all the parts assembled in the original configuration, remove the running battery, the cmos battery and any external power supply. Let it sit for about a day. Let my know if the problem is unresolved after that.

Nx7010 does not start.

Hello dear, probably some BIOS values changed, causing u no displays. Try this key combination immediately after startup

esc - loads bios, but not in display
F9 - (hope its F9 in ur laptop) resets BIOS
F10 - saves BIOS to default values and exits
RESTART

Or else try removing CMOS battery, its right beneath the keyboard. (Just remove 1 screw) Remove and hold for 1 minute and then reinsert and turn up laptop on. Your PC should be fine.

Have compaq nx7010 can power up but screen blank and hard disc light (between power and mains power symbols) not staying on. have tried removing battery and refitting which has worked once before but now...

Hi,

The HDD light is not meant to be on solid, it comes on only when the hard drive is actually working. The situation you're describing is usually just a lockup in standby.

Although you're onthe right track with the battery, To reset the power, unplug the AC cord, remove the battery and then hold the power button for 30 seconds. Now put the battery back plug it in and turn it on. It may give you an error about not being able to resume, this is normal.

If this doesn't work get back to us with more info: does it beep when it turns on, how many times, longs/shorts.

Did you try plugging and external monitor into the laptop and rotating displays to see if your backlight is out?

Ok, giver a try and let us know.

How to switch to battery power source on a compaq nx7010

If you have the AC adapter plugged into the portable, it will run on AC power while recharging the battery. Once you remove the AC adapter, it will go onto battery power.

If once you remove the AC adapter the computer dies, with a battery installed, then your battery is weak/dead or there is a connection problem, and the battery is not charging. But, I doubt this is the case, since it thinks the battery is at 80%. The system does not know if the battery is holding a charge.

You power settings are only timers, which reduce power consumption when idle.

Battery problem HP compaq nx7010

Could be memory effect. Have you tried letting the battery run out completely, and then recharging?
You need to set the power option in control panel not to turn off for low power, and just let the battery run out.
Or it could be a faulty battery. Have you tried another battery?

May be there is a problem with your ram or your hard disk is not plugged in properly.Remove your hard drive clean the ports and place it back the way it was similarly do the same for the ram and see if that solves the problem or your ram is dead.Try a new one.
