Where is the factory amp location in a 97 ford explorer

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2008

Have the same problem. The rest of the stereo works but the amp & sub. wondering how to fix it if possible.

  • Anonymous Oct 03, 2008

I've tried replacing the amplifier, but everyone I get had different connections or does not make the subwooker work.

I have checked the power going into the amp and coming through. It's all working. There is just NO sound coming from the SUB. I've tried 2 amps and nothing. So is there something in the factory radio that controls the sound to the sub through the amp. The door speakers work fine but don't sound great without the amp. THANKS

Hi, just checked out a site and a guy had the same problem in a FORD EXCURSION. He had power going to the amp, but after taking the factory radio out , there was a wire or connector unplugged at the back of the radio, which fixed the problem. Worth a try!!!!!! It would be alot easier getting that radio out than tearing all that out to change the amp.

Tap into a signal wire (rear speaker wire) using a line level converter.
These convert the High level speaker wire output into low level RCA output that is accepted by your amplifier.
c5b61ef.jpg Get a good one Pacific Accessory Corporation (PAC) sni-35 is the best IMO.
The TRUNK-LOC is the SAME as the SNI-35 - but it incorporates a voltage sensing input - so you dont need to run an additional turn-on wire. The voltage is sensed through the speaker wire - and it turns on the amplifier.

Then you will need a fused power wire from the battery,
Ground to chassis, and remote turn on lead (if you use a standard line level adapter).

An amplifier installation kit will give you everything you need to add 1 amplifier (except the converter)

THUNDER 5601 WHEN VEHICLE TURNED ON, SUBS BOOM, THEN WORKS OK. ALSO WHEN RADIO TURNED OFF

If the amp produces no boom with no signal input cables connected, I'd suggest using an LOC.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Check all the fuses and replace, including the power fuse and any that might be inside the unit. Too many speakers connected together can cause an overload and either blow a fuse or trigger the protection circuitry. If the protection is triggered or blows a fuse with all speakers disconnected, then your amp is shot and needs repair.

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice.
Thank you, and good luck!!
