Question about Fuji FinePix S700 Digital Camera

Cannot upload pics from camera to PC

Hello there. I am unable to get pics from my camera onto my WIN XP PC.
I installed the software and rebooted. When I plug usb cable into camera and than into PC, turn camera on...a white screen comes up on the camera with USB written in the top left corner. The FinePix program came up, but empty , there are no pics shown for me to upload.
I have plugged other devices into the computers USB port to make sure the port is working correctly, I have also tried other USB ports and have no luck. I have taken over one hundred pictures on this 1gb XD Olympus memory card and am now trying to upload them onto my PC.
I have also tried uninstalling the software and just letting Windows recognize it and installing its own drivers etc. There also with no luck.

Any advice given is much appreciated.

Thank you,
Ray

Hello Steve5 , thanks soo much for responding.

I have done what you said and here are the reults.

    - I un-installed all software through add/remove progs

    - cleaned out recycle bin just for fun

    - Rebooted

    - Opened up my computer

    - Plugged camera in with USB than to computer

    - Turned camera on

    - found new hardware, digital camera came up (small box in bottom right hand corner).

    - shortly after that, the found new hardware wizard box opened up. 2 options are avail. for me to chose from.

INSTALL AUTO...or...INSTALL FROM LIST OR LOCATION.

One thing I should mention is. This is the second FUJIFILM FINEPIX S700 camera I try. The first one I had....had the same problem, I thought it was a bad cable so I returned it for a totally new camera/box.

I also tried taking the XD card out and putting in my old Pnasonic SD 512MB card and had the same bad luck. I think that should rule out a bad memory card or corrupt files...should it not?

Again, I really appreciate the help. I really like the looks/feel/options of this camera and really do not want to return it for a different model, but of course if I have to I will.

    thanks,

    Ray

Would you like me to go through the new hardware wizard?

    thnks.

  • rocksteady4 Feb 05, 2008

Ok I will try the auto right now.

When I close the wizard a new drive does not pop up in my computer.

  • rocksteady4 Feb 05, 2008

Here is the msg I got after the new hardware wizard was done searching .

    "cannot install the hardware"

"the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot ifnd the necessary software"

"click back if you have installation media such as a cd-rom , or if you know the location of the software"

  • rocksteady4 Feb 05, 2008

Yep very strange. I am not a computer expert..but I have taken several pc repair software and hardware classes...so i am fairly confident that my pc is operating correctly. I def know I am virus clean.

I also have a 2gb Lexar memory stick and mp3 player that all use that same usb port , and they are detected right away in my computer and running A-1.

Before I bought this camera I had a canon powershot a520 4meg...that camera was recognized right away...never ever a problem...someone dropped it and it has been broken since..so I went out and bought this fuji for $250 cnd. Nothin but problems so far.

It takes pics well from what I can see...Is there anyway you might be able to pass this brain buster along to another camera fixin' friend?

I know its really hard sometimes when your not seeing whats going on , you always thing its prob something obvious. I also worked as phone tech support for at&t dial up clients....so I have of course ruled out really dumb obvious things.

  • rocksteady4 Feb 05, 2008

sh0uld the camera be on any specific setting when connected???

  • rocksteady4 Feb 05, 2008

yes pc with win xp...........plenty of ram and cpu is a couple gigs.......I have never ever had an issue like this. The pc is seeing that something is there...that tells me the cable is working fine and that the camera is operating ok as well. This is the second of its kind that I try with the exact same issue.

I did also try and direct the wizard towards the instal cd...still didnt seem to work....I will fool around until I figure it out...I;m sure I will stumble across something...and if by thurs or fri and I am still stumped I will return it.

    thanks again for your time.

If you would like to email me about this I would be willing to send you all screen shots as well....just a thought.

what are my other options instead of returning the camera.....what is a card reader?????

  • rocksteady4 Feb 05, 2008

another option could be to take the cable and camera over to a friends place and see if it'll pick it up there.

I also checked device manager and everything is perfect there.

Hi Ray;
Try uninstalling the Fuji software completely, through the Windows control panel. Don't use the supplied software at all. Make sure the camera is unplugged from the computer. Open "my computer" and note which drives are present. Now plug in the camera (still turned off) to the USB port. Turn the camera power switch on. Wait and see if a new drive icon shows up. It may take a minute or so. If you get a new icon (probably Fuji DSC or similar), you should be able to open the new drive and access the images through the various folders. If not, can you see images on the camera screen (when not connected to computer)? If yes, maybe a bad cable. If no, could be corrupted images on card.

I've never had to use the new hardware wizard with that model. If you close the wizard, does a new drive icon show up in "my computer"? If not, try the auto install first, before using the install from list. Keep me posted. Steve

Weird. I just took a picture with an S700, plugged it into a PC (no prior software installed), and up pops the icon in my computer. I can open the images and view them. The icon that comes up says "Finepix S5700/S700). This is very baffling. I'm starting to suspect a computer issue, but I can't begin to guess where. Mine works, why won't yours! Grrrrr. Would an external card reader be worth trying?

It doesn't seem to matter what mode the camera is in when you plug it it as modes are overridden when connected via USB. I just tried one of our S700's again, without problem. I'm stumped. You certainly are trying the same logical, methodical steps that I would for myself or for one of my customers. Why does it plug and play without incident on my PC, and not yours? PC with XP running, right? No other software impeding the recognition?

    Hi;

A card reader is a device which plugs into your computer and has slots to insert one, or more, camera media cards into. Most are multi slot which read SD, xD, Memory Stick, and others. The advantage of a card reader is that it doesn't kill your camera's batteries when uploading a lot of images. You also don't have to mess around with plugging your camera into the computer, you just leave the card reader plugged into the USB port. They run from about $20 to $40 Canadian/US. Should be available at any camera or electronics store. They usually don't have near as many problems as does uploading from the camera, also. Cheers.

I was having the same problem. Intel P4 with Win XP Pro SP2.

With the USB cable plugged in, the computer wasn't recognizing the camera on powerup. What I did is with the camera still on, I unplugged the USB cable at the camera's port, and plugged it back in. The computer immediately found the device.

Perhaps that will work for some of you as well.

Cant upload photos from my camera

try this go into device manager, remove ALL the USB, uninstall all the drivers, reboot PC, install the software that came with your camera, reboot, at next desktop, wait say a few mins, and NOW plug in your camera, you should hear a dong dong, it will then either install or ask for drivers, point it to the software that you used to install, wait until finished and with it still attached, reboot, wait until desktop appears next time, and wait a little bit, now your camera should work.

Ouch. The ONLY "official" solution I could find was this: "If you have lost youroriginal Solution Disk, you can purchase a replacement by calling Canon Photo/Video Spare Parts."

OTOH, I did find this file:
http://menterprise.net/guest/apps/zoombrowser/zoombrsr22.exe

== Be careful downloading files. Scan it with virus-scan before opening and installing. ==

BTW, updaters for some versions of the Zoom Browser can be found at: usa.canon.com.

Uploading pictures from my digital camera onto my computer

Hello and welcome to FixYa

Please go to a electronics store and buy a USB card reader. I bought one last week and it cost $0.5 so its cheap as dirt. Then simply remove the card from your camera , pop it into the reader and the pictures will appear on a drive like a flashdrive in your my computer folder.

This is a much better option than using the camera's cable as it is faster , safer , saves on your camera battery and you don't need to install any software or drivers.

I cannot speculate as to what is wrong with your camera but this solution should bypass the problem and enable you to copy your pics again.

Kind Regards
Andrea

Xp home doesn't recognize

I don't think XP pro vs XP home would make a difference here. Did your camera come with a driver disk? You might need to install some software for your computer to recognize the camera.

Another easier way is to just get a card reader. I picked one up for about 15 bucks and it reads every kind of card imaginable. I use Google's Picasa software (www.picasa.com) on Windows, it recognizes when a memory card has been plugged in and goes right to the screen where you can start importing your pics.

Unable to get pics from camera to computer?

Tell us more about the everything!
You habe connected to USB cable from camera to Computer - Yes?
Switched on the Camera and set to 'Upload - Yes?
If you have installed the software disk- uninstall it and let the Computer sort it- which it can.
Are you using an external card reader- which is preferable to uploading from camera by the way.
Just tell me more.

Canon powershot sd 750 problems

Check on the CD software you received with your camera whether it support the Win Xp OS. In case it doesn't support your OS, go to the Canon web site and download to your PC the relevant drivers for your camera and OS. Good luck !
