After powering on, the lcd shows only the previous pics held in memory

When switching the lever to engage the different view options (green/edit, red/lcd, or red/eyepiece) nothing happens...the lever moves to each point but the lcd image of the last photo on the memory card remains in the lcd viewing window.

Thus, no new pictures can be taken. Easily can review all the pics on the memory card, just cannot initiate the camera to begin taking new pictures. The lens does not fully extend.

Sure would hate to discover that the repair...if there is one is more costly than the purchase of a new camera. I've had this one a while and no other issues..hasn't been dropped or anything so I'm curious why all of a sudden this issue has arisen.

Help. I'm tempted to take the whole camera appart if I could only find a small enough screwdriver!

Why the memory stick don't show the pics on the camera

There are several different memory sticks and the are not fully compatible. Be sure you bought the right memory stick for your camera Refer to the manual. Check in the computer if there are any pictures at all on the memory stick. Please don't copy pictures from another camera to the stick to view them on a camera. Most camera's only can show the jpg pictures that were shot with that oa a same camera. Even in one brand of camera's there can be differences in the file you want to view.

LCD screen stays dark

I have the same problem and very frustrating! The camera turns on by won't show anything (totally black) in the camera mode. The menu still works. If I take a picture the display is black and shows black for it in the display mode model as well. Tried everything that I can think of but nothing helped. (Taking out the batteries and reinstalling, switching the mode from display to camera and back, stepping through each mode option, stepping through each menu options). The last option worked once but won't work later on. From this forum this seems to be a common problem with this camera. Guess won't buy another camera from Canon any more. I bought a camera (non-digitals SLR) from Canon before and was very happy with it for over 20 years. Thought Canon had the right thing in camera. This problem made me think twice when I buy another camera in the future. Perhap Canon is not as good as I thought. By not fixing the known problem, they are ruining their reputation.

Black screen when camera is on...did you get an answer?

One configuration option for the F700 is to turn off the LCD when taking pictures and use the view finder-- this saves battery power. If you press the DISP button to the right of the LCD should turn on.
.
To turn the LCD back on-- Press MENU/OK (you should see the SELF TIMER screen). Press RIGHT ARROW to select the SET option. Press UP ARROW to select the SETUP option. Press MENU/OK. You should see the SET-UP screen. Use the UP/DOWN Arrows to navigate the options; use the LEFT/RIGHT Arrows to cycle through the options. The IMAGE DISP and the LCD options control when the LCD is powered on.

LCD not working

There's a good possibilty that your mode switch is broken. Same thing happened to my Z6. I was able to source replacement switches, and can replace them.

Screen white

if you are changing the lever to different positions...the green/edit, red viewfinder, or the red lcd view and get nothing...chances are your camera has the same problem mine does. The lever is broken and is not engaging the mechanism internally to change the views or power the lens to fully extend.

you won't be able to take pictures like me. I don't know if there is a fix or not. I guess the camera is prone to these problems as there are a few similar to what u describe with yours.

Retrieving used memory space off DUOPro stick that can't be viewed on LCD or computer.

You have a bad sector on the memory stick.

Download the data to a computer and format the stick.

Good luck.
