    For Terryfic,

Thanks again for sharing your expertise with me. And as result, the tv now comes on full audio and video.

Question? You stated in previous exchange, not to converge...

Well, the picture is quite distorted in color.I made an attempt to converge, but i found that none of the colors will move horizontally or vertically. What da ya think?

Dactag,
Working backwards now.......The burning smell will be the current limiting resistors near and in the circuit of the IC's
you changed..1 to 2 ohms, 1 or 2 watts.....caused by generic
replacement IC's STK392-110,120 or 150......Here is what to do to FixYa! First, please read some of my solutions for convergence
repairs...any brand, the info is generic, the repair parts are not....

1) REMOVE cheap IC's ! Replace with Hitachi part # CZ 01341
upgrade Mfr by Sanyo STK394-160

2)Replace any / all burnt or changed value resistors

3)Re-test to see any symptom....DO NOT CONVERGE

4)Think about putting the original DCU back, since it was
not the problem .......

5) Now where are we at ?? ............................T.

    auntdebbie,

You have a different model with different circuitry and a

different procedure to get to a final repair....please enter

the FixYa system seperately for advice....Thanks,Terry.

  • Vista Electronics Feb 23, 2008

    dactag,

Burning smell is now an open resistor or an open fuse device

which results in no convergence possible.....caused by bad new

    IC's,most likely.......re-read my Feb 16 comment.......T.

  • Vista Electronics Feb 23, 2008

Sorry, some details lost along the way.....

Two pins mistakenly soldered together can smoke a resistor..

Re-check your work, look for solder splash..

Check fuse devices protecting plus and minus voltages to run

convergence output IC's...verify they are present

Check fuse near IC's if there is one...

Check EP96,97 in power supply area = pico fuses....small,

    soldered in fast-acting fuses........................

Be specific in feedback on what you have done,checked,etc...

    ....................................................................................T.

We have a hitachi 53UWX10B and it is showing 3 colors and is out of focus, looks 3-D

Please do us a favor and rate this solution after reading.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hitachi 53uwx10b Convergence Grid Tilted A Little...

If the tilt is not that bad, I would leave it be. The reason is yes you can straighten the tilt out, but it requires a mechanical alignment to all 3 CRT's then you will have to align the convergence on all 3 as well. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thank you.

Convergence settings on hitachi 53uwx10b

Yes - You will need to either remove the circuit board or lift up the tray. If you are not sure how to do it yourself read the link below.

  • This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.

Ineed to know what convergence ic's are in this tv

Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

53UWX10B blurred pic and blue/yellow lines

you can try the convergence first
if you cant converge the lines into one to correct this then you would require service for the convergence stage of your set
this is not a uncommon problem and usualy runs around 280 to 350 to repair unless the dcu is at fault

Hitachi 53uwx10b

I believe you can order the convergence board replacement for $299 from Part Store, here's a link to it for my 61" Hitachi, which should use the same board:
http://www.partstore.com/Part/Hitachi+Ltd/Hitachi/61SWX12B/Hitachi+Ltd/Hitachi/CS00452R/New.aspx

They offer a 30 day hassle-free return policy, so if for some reason it wouldn't work for you or isn't the right part, all you'd be out is the return shipping, as the initial shipping is free.
I'm in the process of having my board fixed w/the IC/resistor kit and hopefully I don't need a whole new board.  We'll see, but give this a shot, I don't see how you can lose...  -TD

Urgent help

ok i would suspect the yokes are shorted to ground somewhere. you can measure that. the dcu or the digital convergence unit... which is the processor that handles the convegence of the set. i would have to research and pull up schematics to know which output on the convergence chips that those resistors handle blue ver...blue horizontal..etc.. that might help to see which output is shorted.

Bad Solder

I don't know if you can buy the boards anymore, ive always replaced the IC checked the resisters, i can point you to two websites that have instructions.
http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html
http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm
i would also replace the IC with the stronger ones stk392-180's and i would replace both no matter what.
