Blackberries are famous for requiring the "take battery out and put
back in" proceedure to reset things. Give it a try if you have not yet. Make sure you back up the data on your PC.
Yes... this is common... if it is under a year old, take it in to where you bought it and get a warranty upgrade with updated firmware.

Try out the hard reset on your phone by giving the code *7370# and dont forget to take the back up of your mobile,all contacts and removethe memory card also as it will delete everything on your mobile.
