Question about Xerox Phaser 8400 Laser Printer

Can't put maintenance kit in

I removed the maintenance kit in order to clean the plastic wiper blade as described in the manual.

Now, when trying to put it back in, it is blocked by the mechanism that is used to lift the maintenance kit up against the drum during normal cleaning operation.

I have gone through the menus to see if any of the options would make this mechanism return to it's normal position, but have not managed to find one.

Can you offer advice on this issue? Thanks.

You can remove the left, as looking from the front, side cover and manually crank down that white cam that moves the kit up and down.
It is opreated by a clutch. Removing that clutch makes it easier to lower.
Left hand side, looking from tehe front. Just do some observation to determine what you need to move. Should not be a problem.

Never heard of a "cleaning cartridge". Couldn't find one in the service manual.
There is a cleaning kit(C8554A).
The cleaning blade might not be latched, that will cause the problem you describe.
Remove the 'waste toner bottle'. Push the blue handle down. Pull out the transfer cleaner(cleaning blade) and reseat it. It is included in the cleaning kit.

This is out of the service manual. Generally you can just remove the sides and home everything and it will work fine.

The 7,007.49, 7,008.41, 7009.42, and 7,010.43 errors indicate that the
Printhead was unable to tilt normally on its axis. Possible causes include:
■ The printer was powered off in the middle of a cleaning cycle and the
Wiper Blade has frozen to the Printhead.
■ A Drum Maintenance Camshaft lobe is broken and holding the Drum
Maintenance Kit’s oil roller against the Drum when it should be retracted
to its home position.
■ Process Drive not being aligned correctly.
■ A damaged Printhead Restraint.
■ Ink spilled in the Roll Block preventing proper Printhead motion.
■ Ink or other debris under the Printhead preventing proper motion.
■ The Wiper Assembly not being aligned correctly or ink spilled in the wiper
tracks.
■ The Head Tilt Gear not being homed correctly.
■ The X-Axis Motor nose cone not being installed correctly.
■ The ferrite torrid on the Printhead interface cable has slipped behind the

Head tilt error


You will most likely have to either clean the stainless steel print head block, or get to the print head area and get the print head wiper unstuck from the print head.
Those 2 are the most common reasons for the print head tilting error.
The wiper blade clutch may be failing, but thats not as frequent on the 8560.

Put a brand new maintenance kit in Xerox Phaser 8560 and it died


This is from the service manual. The lobes on the camshaft that rotates the maint kit up are know to crack. If they have rotated on the shaft this could cause your problem.
If you remove both sides and home everything it will come ready as long as nothing is broke

Black lettering on drum and is transferred to printed document. Also paper jams continually and sounds as if it is tearing when it exits the machine.

Check for and remove any media, jammed
paper, or debris found in the exit path.

or replace the kit.

Check the exit area, exit frame, Preheater,
Drum Maintenance Kit, Printhead, and
Stripper Blade for anything touching the
Drum.
2. Reseat any component interfering or
touching the Drum.
3. Clean the Stripper Blade.

Install wiper on xerox 8560 dn

Also, I think there are two wiper blades on the 8560, one is on the maintance kit and the other is supposed to be removed, that was the old 860 that could remove theirs. Perhaps cleaning it will be fine. just open the top of the machine and its right there, give it a wipe and it should be fine. The other wiper blade on the maintanance kit and here is a link below to show you how to clean it!

The ink seems to smear or drag down the page.


What normally causes that condition is a worn or dirty wiper blade. That blade is located between the print head and the drum. Is will not clean properly between prints.
There is a possibility that the maintenance kit could be the problem depending on how it was stored.
That is a roller impregnated with silicon lubricant, if it is stored standing on end, the lubricant will seep to one side and the opposite side will be pretty dry causing smears and streaks.
Also, have you gone into the tools mode and run the cycle to remove smears and smudges? That can help resolve your problem.
With the problem getting somewhat less as you run, I would take a good look at the maintenance kit just to see how it is cleaning. Look at the large roller and see if there are any sopts.

That error is not related to the maintenance kit.
That code has to do with the print head tilt.
There are 3 things that usually cause that.
Most of the time it is the print head block, which if you remove the left side cover, (looking from the front) it is a stainless steel block located about mid way back on the machine, toward the bottom. It is about 1 inch square, and ink leaks into it and makes it very sticky, The print head then can not pivot betwen the home and print position.
The second most likely problem is the wiper blade is stuck to the print head. You can try turning it off and on a few more times, but if the wiper is tacked tightly, you will have to remove both side covers, and the ink loader, and gently pry the blade off the print head.
Thirdly are the cables that attach to the print head are restricting the free movement of the print head.
None of these are real difficult to do, Just take time and patience.
If you want more procedures etc. let me know. This is normally a pretty easy fix.

· A broken left or right printhead restraint.
· Ink spilled in the roll block preventing the printhead from tilting forwards/backwards or from traveling left/right.
· Ink or other debris under the printhead that do not allow it to fully tilt backwards or forward.
· The printhead wiper assembly not being aligned correctly or ink spilled in the wiper tracks on either side of the printer.
· The printhead tilt gear not being homed correctly.
· The X-axis motor nose cone not being installed correctly.
· The ferrite torrid on the printhead interface cable has slipped behind the printhead causing the printhead to bind when it tilts backwards.
· The black plastic shroud on the back of the printhead is snapped off and binding the printhead when it tilts back.
