i have a hp ipaq rz1710 and can not sync it with vista.

the active sync website states that it will only work with xp earlier?

does this mean earlier as in 2000/ME or younger editions like vista

    exact same problem. despite

    • uninstalling and re-installing wmdc 6.0 and 6.1,

    • soft and hard resets of the phone

    • uninstlaling nad re-installing drivers

    • all followed by shutting down nad restarting computer

    • hours on the phone with Samsung, Verizon and dell

the phone always reports that activesync 4.5 needs to be installed on my computer.

vista will not install AS 4.5. it replaces it with Windows media device center. i have the latest version (6.1) installed.

Active Sync will NOT work on Windows Vista. The issue you are having is because Windows Vista does not have Microsoft Outlook, but rather Windows Live Mail.

Yes, Live Mail is just a newer version of Outlook that looks and performs exactly as Outlook does, but neither Windows Mobile Device Center nor Active Sync will be able to sync to Live Mail.

If you really need to sync to your PC, then your best bet is to obtain a copy of Outlook and everything should work just fine.

If your goal is simply to back-up your information in case something bad happens to your phone, then your carrier may have other options available. Verizon Wireless does offer a Wireless Sync, which backs up your contacts, calender, tasks, notes, etc to a secure website.

Again, if you specifically need/want your information on your PC then you need to install Outlook on Vista to make it work.

Active sync

Hello,

Depending on your OS, you'll need Windows Mobile Device Center 32-bit or 64-bit. ActiveSync is for Windows XP machines;

Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6 1 for Windows Vista 32 bit

Windows Mobile Device Center 6 1 Driver for Windows Vista 64 bit

Thanks
Jay

Where can I find a hardware installer for my Xda Atom Exec Phone? Because I can't upload a video and I don't have the software for it.

Welcome to FixYa.

Download and install the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) from this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=83D513EA-9DF9-4920-AF33-3A0E2E4E7BEB&displaylang=en#Instructions

This will enable your O2 XDA Exec to link with the PC.
Note that your PC will go through a Microsoft Validation Process before proceeding with the download. SO make sure that your Windows Operating System is Genuine.

Thank you for using FixYa.
Have a great day.

You need to download Microsoft ActiveSync in case using Windows XP from:

Phone hang and momery full

You transfer all the files stored in the device memory to storage card by using the file explorer or by connecting the same with the PC.

Sync all the data including the note calendar etc with the computer using the Windows mobile device center (you can download the same in the link http://en.kioskea.net/telecharger/telecharger-409-windows-mobile-device-center ).

Click on the clear storage by navigating start>settings>system>clear storage and verify the same by 1234.

Caution all the software will be removed and it can be restored by means of the launch program in the computer start menu.

After the phone is restored to the original state sync the phone with the PC and use the launch program to restore the installed applications.
Make sure to install all the applications in the storage memory and the data too.

O2 xda exec

This is the suggestion they provide on O2 website for such problems:
  • Perform a soft reset (PDA phone) or re-boot the device (Smartphone) and test again.
  • Perform a hard reset (PDA phone) or return to default settings (Smartphone) and test again. (read below before dong this)
  • Check that the application still fails to execute after you upgraded the ROM (OS) to the latest revision. If you haven't upgraded your ROM (OS) do so now and check again.
But before doing the hard reset, I suggest you try installing other camera software for windows mobile 5 and check if the camera still working (not a hardware problem). If its still fail, try the hard reset after backing up all you data.
