We have had this system for a day and a half, when you turn on the
power button the stand bye(red light) comes on but when you push the
power button the green light comes on and then the red and green lights
go off and the system doesn't work. Anyone with advice or help.

Re: NOT TURNING ON
If i was you i would take it back to where you got it from and demand they swap it. I've read that alot of people have had this problem. But its always when they first buy them. So i say its sony quality control, and there not checking the ps3's before there going out. Take it back to shop with receipt and ask them to swap it. You shouldn't have any problems.

Ouch, my first thought is, maybe it jolted the HDD (hard drive) Go through the steps to remove it, then reinstall it. After the removal an re-installation, try turning it on in safe mode for a system check or restore.
you need to change your power box there is a bad connection with the wires. its over heating you might whant to buy another at game stop or take it in to get fixed. the more you messed with it it might mess up your whole system.
1. Does the power light come on at all?
2. Does anything happen when you try to power the console up?
3. Is there any lights blinking?
4. When the console is just sitting there is the red stand-by light on?
you have what is known as the red screen of death. you may be able to easily fix this by turning off the system from the switch in the back then turn it on from the back you will then see the light in the front is red. push and HOLD the power button until you hear three beeps in a row then a menu with 6 options should come up choose the third one. you will then need to hook up a controller with the usb cable and press x. you may have to repeat this several times but it has worked for people Good luck
Follow the procedure below to fix the problem on your ps3,
Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system
will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been
shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4.
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will
be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS
button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery
Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. •
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. •
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. •
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore
PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. •
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
its a power failure inside the ps3!!! You have to call sony to replace the system it will cost u 150.00 dollars unless ur still under warrenty goodluck because i had to get 3 systems from sony before i got one that worked just right
Mine did that and it really pised me of, sony told me to turn the power switch onthe back of the console on, when the stand by light comes on to push and hold the on button for at least 3 seconds until you hear a second set of beeps. This however didn`t work so I sent it back to Sony Australia and got it fixed up no worries.
