Question about Samsung SCX 4521F All-In-One Laser Printer

Problem scanning with samsung scx 4521f

I am reposting this problem with the hope that somebody will give assistance for free, even if i will not upgrade to Premium Assistance Account. i can't scan with samsung scx 4521f multi-function printer. the following error message appears:

samsung scx 4x21 is not connected on this machine. scanner device is not responding. please check that it is turned on and connected to the computer. cannot open device samsung scx 4521f.

the printer is connected to my pc notebook via a parallel to usb cable ( printer has a parallel port while pc has a usb port). all the necessary softwares and driver are correctly installed and updated.i can PRINT. but i can't use the SCAN function. the computer won't recognize the scanner. also the scanner icon on the taskbar keeps on flashing with a red cross on it. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and software but to no avail. please i really need help.

    @Benimur:

    I am using a parallel to usb cable because the notebook has no parallel port. I will buy a usb to usb cable and try if it will solve the problem. Also, my OS is windows XP. Thank you for the solutions you've offered. I will try if finally the scanner will work.

    a USB to USB cable solves it all. the machine is now perfectly working and the scan function is now working. thank you for all of your suggestions. A big thanks!

    I have the same problem scanning feature does not work has the same error messages... I am connected parallel to parallel...drivers are installed properly...seems nothing with Smarthru 4 is working

    Samsung scx-3405 printer will not print when using computer. There appears to be no connection. Printer will print blan sheet of paper if I press start or wifi button on it

My connection is via a parallel to parallel cable, and I am also having a similar problem. I'm reading that usb to usb cable is the only way it will properly function. good luck with it!

Hi,

Sorry to have missed your initial posting...

In any case, to my understanding, this particular printer is likewise capable of USB connection. Perhaps you can try connecting it pure USB and go through the installation again. this might simplify interface and communications between notebook and scanner/printer.

If for some reason you would want to retain Printer/Parallel to Notebook/USB, you need to check your Imaging Devices in the notebook's Device Manager and verify that all drivers are installed for the Samsung SCX-4521F. There should be no yellow or red marks. If there are or if the Samsung SCX-4521F instance is not present, you may need to reinstall using the Add Hardware Option in the Control Panel. You may need to manually select the imaging device/scanner. This holds true if you are using Windows XP.

If you are using Vista, you may need to download all the Vista drivers from the Samsung website. Further, pls be informed that to my knowledge, Vista has certain issues with USB ports. Microsoft has issued a patch/update specifically for this concern. It may be downloaded from here or here.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    Why not try parallel to parallel (LPT1) also aside from USB to USB rather than parallel to USB (with an adapter)?

The printer prints, has ink but the pages come out blank. Can you help?

It seems that the cartridge of your printer are block, To test this, simply take out the cartridges and take one tissue paper, put the head of cartridge on the tissue, check if you got ink on the tissue shake the cartridge twice so that it will work again, For color and black cartridge ,
try putting cartridges again in your printer and give print command, it will now give you a print, if it doesn't gives print you have to change the specific cartridge

I tried what wah suggested and I am still not able to print. What do I do? Does this cost any additional money to ask this question?

Try downloading the latest drivers for Vista from lexmark website here: http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:439:0:0 . if you have vista 64 you may need specifics drivers for vista 64.
