I don't know how to take this apart. Is it worth paying to get it serviced, or just toss it?

HP printers frequently time how long a page takes to run through the machine. If it is too slow, they signal a jam error.

Try cleaning all the rollers and pinch wheels etc within the laser.

Tip

Paper Jams

The most common error message is the notorious paper jam message. You do a quick look and then determine there is no jam. What next? Well here is a tip that will save you possible a service call. If you find a sheet of paper that has jammed, look at it closely. It is all together as one piece or is there the tinest of pieces missing? It only takes a tiny piece to cause a jam error. Pull the print cartridge out and with a flashlight look inside the printer and especially at each roller and see if there is any hint of a piece of paper. Look closely because you can miss something. Next open the paper tray and make sure the paper guide is firm against the paper. This will cause a jam. Just drove an hour and a half this week for this issue. The paper guide was not up against the paper causing the jam. If you have a small vacuum I suggest you vacuum out the printer because there are times that the sensors can get covered with paper dust causing them to fail. Hope this helps!

Have you tried shutting it down completely? Also, double check to see if the inside of the printer is completely clean. I had the paper jam indicator showing because there a small piece of paper stuck inside. Also, found a helpful manual for a similar printer, you can see it here - Brother HL-2240 manual

Printer keeps saying i got a jammed paper there is no jammed paper

There are many places in a printer where a small piece of paper can get stuck. It's not always a sheet of paper. Open all the access panels and check the roller track for pieces of paper. If it is clear, unplug the printer for a few seconds and the plug it back in. This should clear the problem if it was in error. Also check the paper feed for too many sheets stuck together jamming the feed. Before loading paper always "fan" the paper first to avoid sheets being stuck together.

Paper jam

It seems to be that you need a roller replacement. This is the part in the printer that slides the paper towards the ink. It could be that it's got loose and its taking in more than one piece of paper at a time.
I would recommend checking that nothing loose. Try placing one piece of paper in and wriggling it around if it seems to slack then it's clearly loose.
Hope I helped Dr Reed

While printing, paper jams. the sheet pulls through initially, but then while printing, the paper scrunches up and the cartridge jams.

It is likely that there is a small piece of torn paper inside that is causing the paper to bunch up. Try a can of compressed air to clean out the interior and trace through the route the paper takes. Look for anything the paper could get stuck on.

Good Luck!

Major Paper Jam on Dell 5110

When working with any printer it's inevitable that you'll encounter a paper jam. Below are the steps you'll want to follow when this occurs.

1. Turn off the printer.
2. Inspect the location or tray the printed paper ejects to. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.*
3. Remove all paper trays and any paper that may be stuck between the tray and the printer. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.*
4. Open the printer door that allows you access to the printer ink cartridges or toner and look for any stuck paper. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.*
5. Turn the printer back on. If you continue to receive a printer jam error try repeating the above steps again.

If issue still persist and you see no paper that is stuck in the printer it's likely your printer is experiencing another hardware issue and we suggest contacting the printer manufacturer for additional assistance and/or repair. *

To manually remove paper pull on the paper with both hands being careful not to tear the paper while pulling it. If you're unable to get to an edge of the paper that allows you to pull it you may need to manually rotate the gears that feed the paper through the printer. Preventing a printer paper jam As mentioned earlier it is inevitable that you will encounter at least one paper jam during the life of your printer.

However, if you're encountering frequent paper jams following the below steps can help prevent paper jams from occurring. * If your printer has a paper tray do not fill the tray to capacity. If you're encountering frequent paper jams reduce the amount of paper you place in the tray each time it is filled. * Make sure you or the tray feeding the paper into the printer is aligned properly and/or the slider used to hold the paper in place in the tray is snug with the paper. Many printers have sliders that allow different types and sizes of paper to be fed into the printer. If the slider is not properly positioned it can cause paper jams. *

Use standard office paper; folded paper, paper with labels, and specialty paper such as hard bound paper can often cause paper jams. If you're uncertain with what type of paper you should use with your printer your printer documentation will list the types of paper compatible with your printer. * Do not mix the types of paper you're feeding into the printer at one time. If you need to change the type of paper or size of paper being used removed any other paper currently in the printer before inserting the new paper. * Examine the printer for any previous stuck paper in the printer. Previous paper jams, torn paper, printing labels or other foreign objects in the printer can cause reoccurring printer jams.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
