    Hi, I've been using this computer for almost 3 years now, but just recently I have the ic changed. Ever since then, the notebook types the '.' key continuously every time I turn on the notebook i.e. ........................................................................................
    And when I stop it by typing any other key and press the '.' key myself, it doesn't work. I have reinstalled the recovery CD and also taken the '.' key apart to see if there were any dirt, etc., but nothing seems to help... Anybody know what's wrong with this? How much it'll cost to fix? Thanks

I spilled a little water on my keyboard as well.Just a few drops not much but the keyboard stopped working , some of the keys at least.I bought a new keyboard from the Internet and it works like a charm now.
They have pretty good install pictures on this site.I watched the pictures and replaced the keyboard myself.It took me no more than 20 min.I payed something like 20-30 bucks for the keyboard.

PS
I called a shop here in Vegas and they were asking 75 just to "diagnose the problem".

F12 button controls WI-FI on or off and doesn't Bluetooth on or of

On my laptop Fn displays a certain number icons corresponding to Esc, F1, F2,F3,F4,F5,F6,F7,F8, F9 with F8 activating and deactivating the Wireless. F10 toggles the overlaid keyboard, F11 allows one to use the overlaid keyboard
There are no icons for F10, F11, and F12.
After the icon for F9, there is one for TAB, another for Space, and a last one.
If you click the last icon you open a second set (second page) where there are other icons that control other features. There is one to turn ON and OFF the BlueTooth Adapter.

X1000 power button

The power button on these laptops is easily depressed underneath the power button strip especially when the switch becomes dirty, the screen doesn't light up, and the user gets frustrated. When I find a depressed button, I take the keyboard off by removing the 2 13mm screws with the keyboard emblem from the bottom and moving the 4 tiny plates between the esc-F1, F4-F5, F8-F9, & F12-delete keys. The power strip is then removed by gently prying up near the CPU and pulling it up and toward the front of the laptop. You can then either repair or replace the button or strip. I small drop of contact cleaner down into the switch will help it function reliably. Even a small drop of rubbing alcohol will sometimes work but contact cleaner is the best.

I need to know what the keys f1-f12 keys usage.

The uses for the function (f1-f12) keys varies based on which program you have open at the time. Different programs use them for different things.

However, your computer also has some default uses for these keys when combined with pressing the fn (function) key.

fn + f1 locks computer

fn + f2 changes our power use profile

fn + f3 puts the computer to sleep

fn + f4 puts the computer into hibernation mode

fn + f5 changes the display/output mode

fn + f6 decreases the screen brightness

fn + f7 increases the screen brightness

fn + f8 enables/disables wireless connections

fn + f9 enables/disables the touch pad

fn + f10 turns the cursor overlay on/off

fn + f11 turns the numeric overlay on/off

fn + f12 turns scroll lock on/off

Thanks for your support

Remove the keyboard screws first, the screws that secure the keyboard have keyboard symbols next to the screws.
Some Compaq/HP have slide catches along the top edge of the keyboard between the number keys and the Function keys. Usually the slide catches are located between the ESC & F1 key, F4 & F5 key, F8 & F9 keys, F12 & delete keys. Slide these catches towards the front edge of the keyboard (ie. towards the space bar) you should be able to lift the keyboard clear. Don't forget to unclip the ribbon cables on the keyboard.
