Question about Husqvarna Viking 1

Viking 6020 kicks the bobbin case out

Just got this used machine and am trying to familiarize myself with it. The stitch selector knob (upper left) was broken at some time so they super glued it...unfortunately they didn't glue it then put it back on but glued it in place basically locking the stitch selector up. An hour's worth of acetone loosened it enough to change the stitch if I use a pair of pliers. Yikes!

But on to the question. It appears that the needle is hitting the bobbin case and kicking it out. My guess is a bent needle but the instruction manual doesn't indicate if the snaps into place or if it is supposed to just sit there.
Maybe the needle isn't installed properly?

I'm a novice sewer and any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Sheesh....Just messed with it some more. The needle wasn't bent or installed wrong and it seemed that the bobbin case WAS designed to snap in. Then I noticed there was some sort of pad on the bobbin spindle....it wasn't a pad it was about an 1/8 inch winding of old thread. Got rid of that and the machine runs like a champ!

Probably a beginner's mistake! I must say this machine is so much smoother and ... majestic (?) than the plastic Singer I started out on.

Does anybody know if one can get an extension plate for such an old machine?

    Thanks again!

Hi,
Check with allbrands.com - they have LOTS of resources and if you can't find it - you can call and they have lots of great ideas.

Also - ebay has a seller who owns and LOVES sewing machines. He is located in California - so he has a wealth of population base to help you search.

His SELLER NAME on ebay is craigthecat - just do a search and you will find him.

EBAY also has many "for parts" machines - I sure "stick and brick" sellers also have lots of old machines they just sell out the parts.

Glad it was just the thread - happy sewing

How do I set the dials on husqvarna viking 6000 sewing machine

The "dial" in the back is for decorative stitches which require a "programmer" to be inserted with the stitch formation you want to form. For a straight stitch no cam is required in the back of the machine. The three dials on the front:

Upper Left: Stitch selector
Upper Right: Stitch lenght
Lower: Stitch width

Using the upper left dial select the straight stitch picture
Using the upper right, choose your stitch lenght
Using the lower, choose your needle position, left/center/right

My viking emerald 118 machine just started breaking needles and the bobbin thread will not hold. YOu can pull the bobbin stitch out by pulling the thread.

Check the upper tension by lowering the presser foot and pulling on the thread through the needle. You should feel resistance. If not, take a stiff brush and clean out the tension disks/dials removing any loose threads or lint. If upper tension is ok, check bobbin tension by pulling thread through needle plate opening. You should feel resistance. If not, remove bobbin case and brush any loose threads or lint from the case, especially in the tension spring where the thread is snapped into place. You may need to use a sharp needle to dig in between the spring but be careful that you don't damage it.

Viking Husqvarna Model 6020 stitch selector will not turn.

look at the cam gear. This is the unit that the cam connects to. It could have a crack or be split completely. If there is a crack the cam stack will have to be replaced. The parts are hard to get and a good technician is needed.

The bobbin thread on my Viking Designer 1 is too tight

In most cases, this is caused by loose threads and fluff being in the upper tension unit rather than a problem with the bobbin. There is a screw on the bobbin case that losens and tightens the resistence. However, it can easily come out and then you have a mess.

Try this to check the bobbin thread tension -
Take the bobbin case holder out of the machine. Use a bobbin that is about half full and use standard 50 wt sewing thread.
Take your needle plate (the metal plate over the feed dogs that has markings showing stitch width under the presser foot).
Thread the bobbin thread in the bobbin case, holding the case so that the thread is through the tension spring as though it is in the machine, tied the end of the tread to the needle plate and have it hang below the the bobbin case.
If the needle plate immediately drops to the floor, unwinding the bobbin, the bobbin tension is too loose. If you jiggle the bobbin case slightly up and down and the needle plate moves slightly down, it is just right. If it does not move at all it is too tight. The resistence should be 14g which is the weight of the needle plate.

The upper tension unit, look straight down from the tension unit and you should see some metal disks which the upper thread rides through when threaded. Take your small cleaning brush and brush out any loose threads/fluff there. Look down the left side of the tension unit to make sure there is none hiding.

When you tighten the upper tension unit by pushing the tension buttons on the screen, do you hear the tension disks tightening? If not, it may be the pc board or the tension unit itself that will have to be replaced.

Otherwise, you might want to take it to an authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

Good luck

My 5 year old Huskystar 216 sewing machine is

Sounds like the hook/needle timing. To check do the following:

With the power off!!
remove bobbin and bobbin case.
push needle all the way to the left.
Turn handwheel toward you watching the needle and bobbin housing hook. The point of the hook should line up right above the eye of the needle.

If not timing, clean bobbin area removing lint and thread.
Check bobbin tension, should get slight resistance when pulling thread.
Make sure using only Husqvarna Viking bobbins -- most are green but they have new colors now. All will have the Husqvarna logo on them (an H). Make sure the bobbin is unwinding in the right direction.

Remove fabric. Pull extra long bobbin thread (about 3 inches). Hold upper thread tail in left hand, turn handwheel toward you for 1 revolution. Is the bobbin thread caught by the top thread and pulled through the opening of the needle plate?

If you are still unable to get a good stitch, take to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for service or have them send to Husqvarna Viking (SVP) Technical Service Dept for repair. A list of dealers close to you can be found at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us

Good luck.

Can't put a bobbin on the winder Husqvana Viking 6020

Is this a Designer 1 or a #1? There is no moving lever on the pin of a Deigner 1,they are fixed. If it's a #1, use sewing machine oil or Triflow. NEVER use 3 in 1 oil. It will gum up and cause problems later on.

If you have on old Husqvarna 2000 from the 1970's, then the knobs are as follows:

Top front left: Pattern Selector
Top right: Stitch width
Lower: Stitch length and buttonhole (when turned to 0 and pulled out)
Extreme left: Upper tension
Side left: Presser foot pressure

Husqvarna viking, interlude 435...unable to solve tension problem

Sounds like the tension unit is at fault. First check the bobbin tension by removing the bobbin case. Use a half-full to 3/4 full bobbin. Be sure it is threaded through the bobbin case with thread hanging straight down with tension spring on top. Tie the stitch plate to the end of the thread. If the thread pulls the bobbin out, the bobbin tension is too loose. If it does not move when "jiggling" the bobbin, it is too tight (which is not likely based on your description). Small screw (through an open hole) on the side of the bobbin case adjusts the tension of the bobbin case. Left for loose and Right for tighter. Otherwise, contact local authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for their assistance. You can find the closest dealer at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us Good luck.
