Question about Printers & Copiers
I am considering buying a Brother MCP-9040 color laserjet multifunction printer. I plan to use the color option infrequently and would like to be able to set the default printing/scanning faxing setting to black and white and change the setting manually when I need to use color in order to save color cartridges. Can this be done? Easily?
Yes. Any printer's default options can be set as desired. Open the printer's properties (Start/Control Panel/Printers/right click the printer and left click Properties), and change the setting as you wish, then click OK. Those settings should be used each time you use the print command, unless you change the settings for that particular print job.
Hope this helps, and please rate my advice, good OR bad.

To change default on printer, Start, (Control Panel, Printers) or just plain (Printers) if it shows on your computer that way, right click the printer, left click Properties, Printing Preferences, Color tab, Print in Grayscale, Print in Black Only Grayscale.
If you have one photo or document that you want to print in color, you don't have to keep going through the long procedure. Instead of clicking the print button at the top, do File Print, Preferences and change it quickly just for that one document that you have. It will not change the default setting of Black or Grayscale.
You can make that the default printer by Start, (Control Panel, Printers) or just plain (Printers) if it shows on your computer that way, right click the printer, Set as Default Printer.
