WINFAX PRO 10 WINDOWS XP HOME

MY PROGRAM WORKED FINE FOR YEARS THEN 1WEEK AGO I TRIED TO ADD MORE NUMBERS IN A NEW PHONE BOOK AND THE MOMENT I CLICKED ON TH SPACE TO ENTER THE NUMBER, THE WHOLE PROGRAM JUST INSTANTLY CLOSES. I CANNOT CHANGE NUMBERS OF EXISTING RECORDS EITHER.
I DID A COMPLETE UNINSTAL REINSTALL FROM CD. STILL DIDN'T WORK AND IN ADDITION EVERY TIME WINFAX STARTS UP IT ADDS THE USER DETAILS TO THE PHONE BOOK. I'VE TRIED SYMANTICS SOLUTION TO REINSTAL THE PRINTER DRIVER AND REPAIR AND OPTIMISE THE DATABASE FILES. (PHONEBOOK AND LOGS) NO GOOD.

I TOOK THE WORKING BACKUP FILE AND INSTALLED IT IN THE WINFAX FOLDER. IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

IT MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH A WINDOWS XP UPDATED COMPONENT OR A MALICIOUS ATTACK. THE SAME PROGRAM CONTINUES TO WORK ON MY WIN XP LAPTOP WHICH HAS NOT BEEN UPGRADED.

    ANY IDEAS?

I am having the same problem. Worked just fine and then all of a sudden I can't add any new contacts or edit my old ones. The program will just close. Please help!!

  • Anonymous Apr 30, 2008

Same as the others. As soon as the cursor hits a slot where a fax number or a phone number would go the whole thing shuts down. Started about a month ago.
I did a complete uninstall / install. No go. Still the same.

  • dave3152 May 28, 2008

Looks like Symnatec doesn't sell WinFax anymore either or even list it
in the unsupported products page on their site. Too bad, it worked OK
for me until today May 28, 2008.

I will try the workarounds listed here but will have to look for an alternative product. Any ideas?

Here is the REAL solution for this problem with Winfax and Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or newer...and there's NO subscription charged for this solution like www.getfaxing.com tries to get you to do...

1. Go to Control Panel, then Regional and Language Options.

2. Click the Languages tab, then press the Details button.

3. Next, click the Advanced tab.

4. Put a check in the box: "Turn off advanced text services"

5. Restart your computer, start Winfax, and VOILA! Enter your numbers.

Here's a really annoying work around.
Export the phonebook data to an ascii file (text) doc. Edit it and import it back into Winfax's phonebook.
From this I conclude that the database is working.
The problem would appear to be with the focus on any number field in any combo box used by Winfax.
For instance number fields in the user setup also close the program as well.
Seems like something easy to fix???????

Thank you Eric the PC Guy. Solution worked. However, no need to reboot your PC. Simply log-off windows and log back on.

Here is the cheapest and easiest way to get around this problem. Instead of editing your contact information all you need to do is delete the old one and create a new one with the desired information.

@winfaxer: The problem occurs when trying to add new contacts and the program closes...

  • winfaxer Oct 20, 2010

In order to add your new contacts to your phonebook use the "send" screen as if your are sending a fax. Make sure that you have all the correct information the first time. Then, click on the "Add to Phonebook" button on the right side of the "Company" field to add the contact to the phonebook. Always use a 1 and the are code even if you are faxing to the same area code as your own fax number. Enter the fax number as 1000-000-0000.

This solution no longer works for some reason. It used to work in the past.

CORRECTION: Solution #4 is still valid. I meant to comment on solution #3.

I had to reinstall my Winfax Pro. Now i cant get my phonebooks from Outlook 2007 imported back into Winfax. Any solutions??

Dear. Try System Restore. Enter the date that you remember your Winfax.pro worked and included your phone book. Enter that date and restore your system. Sounds like you have clutter problems. Clean up your system daily. Go to Tools on the top right of your computer. Click Internet Options on the drop down menu. Click Delete in the pop up box to clean internet history. Then Click Ok when system is done cleaning the history that bogs down your computer.
Also, run your Defragment Program over and over until it completes its action within seconds. Then run Disk Clean. Your system will run smoother. Be blessed.

Not able to enter phone number under new receipient dia

This usually occurs after an Internet Explorer upgrade. I spent days banging my head against the wall searching for solutions, when I stumbled across this. It fixes the problem every time.

WinFax PRO hangs or shuts down
- during installation
- when prompting for a phone number/CSID
- editing a phonebook entry
- adding/editing an IP address, or setting up Host Sharing

The problem started occuring after installing Internet Explorer 7/8.

SOLUTION:

1. In CONTROL PANEL, Click on REGIONAL AND LANGUAGE OPTIONS

2. Click on the LANGUAGES Tab.

3. Under "TEXT SERVICES AND INPUT LANGUAGES" Click on the DETAILS button.

4. Click the ADVANCED Tab.

5. Under System Configuration, enable the option "Turn off advanced text services" (Put the CHECK mark in this box.)

6. Click OK.

7. Restart the computer and then try WinFax PRO / TalkWorks PRO again. Number entry should now work in WinFax.

8. Now go back to the control panel following the steps above and undo step 5, un-check the option "Turn off advanced text services."

Note

• To open Regional and Language Options, click Start, click Control Panel, click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Regional and Language Options.

• Use this procedure to turn off handwriting recognition, speech recognition, and some accessibility features temporarily. These services can affect performance, and if you are not using them with your current program, you can turn them off temporarily.

• If you are not using a text service at all, you should remove it.

• Turning off text services does not affect multiple languages or keyboards that you have added under Installed services on the Text Services and Input Languages dialog box.

I'd suggest a professional that is familiar with WinFax to do this, or if you have a backup in form of a "WFA" file, you can also perform a "restore" in WinFax. http://www.getfaxing.com/forums

Receiving Fax Line always 'busy'

Installing fax software can be tricky, particularly if you want to import phone-book listings from an existing database or PIM, such as Microsoft Outlook. But WinFax Pro proves easy to configure. A series of introductory screens walks you through installation; you just click Next to accept the default configuration. In our tests, WinFax Pro accurately detected our fax modem and seamlessly imported our contacts from Microsoft Outlook. By comparison, competing fax programs either don't import directly from Outlook or make the process trickier than it needs to be. you can try to look on website and there will explain to you. http://reviews.cnet.com/e-mail/winfax-pro-10-0/4505-3536_7-1536745.html

Winfax pro problem

This is a solution that was suggested for an earlier edition of the Winfax Pro, but there is no reason why it shouldn?t work on this one as well: 1. Close Winfax and any other program that has anything to do with it, delete all the temp files that yo don?t need. 2. Run Scandisk and fix any problems that may come up. 3. Run delfix.exe which is located in the winfax folder in the status files. 4. Run delfix-rebuild and delfix-optimize and check if the problem is solved. If the problem reoccurs there is another possibility- to change the name of the WinFax\data folder and create a new one which you will transfer the address book file, status files etc. from the old folder. Note that there might be some information that wouldn?t go through.
